Revolutionary Stories: A History Podcast

Revolutionary Stories is a collaborative history podcast from our friends at Freedom's Way National Heritage Area that explores the enduring legacies of the American Revolution.

In this episode, host Patrice Todisco and Minute Man National Historical Park Ranger Rick Lawson explore The Wayside, Home of Authors. This extraordinary house bore witness to the start of the Revolutionary War in 1775, took a front-row seat in the nineteenth-century literary movement, was a stop on the Underground Railroad, and played a key role in the historic preservation efforts that have come to define Concord, Massachusetts today.

Click on the button below to learn about the many published authors that have called The Wayside home and their roles in fostering revolutionary ideas.

Volunteer Spotlight

Minute Man National Historical Park is thankful to the many volunteers who help maintain our beautiful and historic landscapes. Recently, staff members from the Chase Bank in West Concord, along with six other Chase Bank branches, assisted at the park several times this spring and summer. The crews removed large patches of highly invasive plants, including garlic mustard and Japanese knotweed. Chase Bank employees Isabella Garrison, Elizabeth Motta, Inessa Hakobjanyan and Ronaldo Meza are pictured above from left to right, with park Superintendent Simone Monteleone (center) at the recent volunteer appreciation event at the Minute Man Visitor Center.

As Vice President and Bank Manager Inessa Hakobjanyan notes, "Our employees love to volunteer and give back to the local community where they live and work. We participate in numerous events throughout the year at local parks and schools. It is a wonderful opportunity for us to develop our leadership skills, spend time together outside of work, and help local causes important to our community."

Thank you to the Chase Bank employees for selecting Minute Man National Historical Park as one of their volunteering destinations! Would you like to volunteer at the park as a group? We welcome school and corporate groups; please contact Margie Brown at margie_coffin_brown@nps.gov to schedule or for more information.

Longfellow House - Washington's Headquarters: Birthday Celebration

Longfellow is well known as the author of "Paul Revere's Ride." But fans of Longfellow's "Evangeline: A Tale of Acadie" can celebrate the birthday of the poem and the author on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at Mount Auburn Cemetery. There will be a marathon reading of Evangeline followed by a wreath-laying at Longfellow's burial site. I'll see you there! Click here for more information.

Acton 250th: A Revolution in the News with Historian Joseph Adelman

Professor Adelman will tell the story of the Revolutionary War’s forgotten instigators: newspaper printers and editors. Shrewdly gauging the political climate and interests of their communities and balancing them with their own commercial interests, eighteenth-century printers were instrumental in creating propaganda and rallying the public to the revolutionary cause.
