The Fuzz Is The Buzz
While the date is preliminary, you may want to tune into Chicago PD this month. The Hive On Hubbard was used for a filming location for Episode 5 of Season 6 airing on October 24. The action-packed-scene was filmed on the roof and featured our unparalleled view of the Chicago skyline. The cast and crew also enjoyed a catered lunch in our event space. We will provide more information after the episode airs!

If you are looking for a inspiring space for a movie/TV scene, or a photography/video project, please contact us at [email protected] . You'll find our building to be very user friendly!
The Great Chicago Fire
October 9, 2018, is the 147th anniversary of  The Great Chicago Fire of 1871. The Hive On Hubbard is located in West Town, an area not impacted by the conflagration, but it played a big part in the rebuilding of the city's commercial district, which was wholly consumed by fire. The original occupant of our building was a furniture maker, crafting commercial furniture (like display shelving, cashiers tables, jewelry counters, etc.) for stores rebuilding after the fire. We've researched the historical tax records, and our building went up sometime shortly after 1872 to meet the demands of a rapidly upgrading city.
Make your own history by having your next event here! The view from our east-facing windows is an unobstructed look at the entire downtown skyline. If you ever want to know more about Chicago history, Chicago architecture, or more about the hallowed halls of  The Hive On Hubbard , stop Bethany or Paul in the hall and pick our brains, or shoot us an email: [email protected].
Rely On The Pros
Guest Editorial

Planning any event, whether a wedding, birthday, anniversary party or even a simple dinner party, should be a reflection of you and your unique style! Pick different foods that you love, colors and décor that represent your natural style at home, and music that makes you wiggle in your seat no matter where you are! These touches will make your event stand out!

Whenever possible, hire professionals to help! There are two essential reasons for hiring an event planner. First, an experienced planner will help you choose qualified vendors with a proven track record in the industry. Second, a planner helps execute the event, from keeping to a schedule to handling last-minute hiccups behind the scenes, so that you can relax and enjoy yourself on the big day. If you're running around trying to set out food, set up décor or refill drinks, your guests will feel compelled to help instead of enjoying the party. Hiring professionals to do these things for you ensures everyone has an amazing experience!

I started A Great Adventure Weddings and Events after spending over 15 years in the event industry listening to clients tell me they hated "Hosting" events because it was just too much stress. With an easy step by step planning process, organized execution plan, and dedicated staff to help, planning an event, and sharing the fruits of that labor with your family and friends, should be effortless and fun! Reach out to see how A Great Adventure can make you love throwing parties again!!

Love your back and it will love you back!

  • I want a sixpack
  • I want my thighs to be smaller
  • I want my butt to defy gravity

All too often, and to the dismay of many-a-personal-trainer, these are the answers to the question, "What do you want to work on?" Rarely does someone say, "I want a stronger back!" We abuse our backs every day hunched over at our desks, slouched on the couch, contorting ourselves while staring at our phones nearly every hour of every day. Our backs give us strength and power, but if we don't care for them, we could turn into the little old man bent over, struggling to push his walker to the cafeteria at the old-folks home. To avoid permanent damage and make yourself look thinner, stronger and more confident try these three back-building and tech-neck counteracting tips:

  1. Pull your shoulders away from your ears: I repeat this during every yoga and trampoline class, but I also say this to myself every time I feel the stress creeping into my shoulders and neck. No one, other than muscle-heads, wants their necks to disappear under their traps, and you can easily avoid this by actively drawing your shoulders down your back during all of your daily activities. Sounds difficult, I know, but it truly does become second nature with daily reminders.
  2. Relax your back: After a full day on your feet or sitting at your desk, you need to decompress your spine. The most effective way to do this is inversion, so why not try Rainbow Sky Yoga with us? Otherwise, laying on your back with your arms and legs relaxed to your sides for at least 15-20 minutes at end of your day may also do the trick.
  3. Pull your hips behind you: When you squat, bend over, crouch and any other way you bend at your waist, you want to pull your hips back instead of curving your upper back down. For those of you who are “flexible” and can lay your nose on your leg, good for you for having longer hamstrings than the rest of us, but that means nothing if you are curving your spine to make it happen. Not to be crass, but the easiest way to do this is to spread your cheeks as you bend… yep, I said it. For a slightly less graphic instruction, push your parallel feet or heels away from each other as you bend, this will draw your hips back and relax your entire spine.

Stay healthy!

Remember Tomorrow?
That Was Yesterday.

“Time flies.” How often have we all heard that figure of speech? Has it lost its impact on you? It does on most of us. It may be a good idea to remind ourselves that not only does time fly, but it flies by twice as fast as we think it will, ergo the title of this post. Our futures become our pasts before we can say, “I should have, would have, could have.”
As we age, we eventually have the epiphany that no one person can do all they want or need to do; life is far too short for that. So what do we do with a day we are so lucky as to have? I have found that the most rewarding tasks are things that we do for fellow humans. I’m not suggesting that we only do things that directly impact others because we need to take care of ourselves too. To be selfless, we first need to act in our self-interest to have the wherewithal to be charitable with our time or money. Do something today that makes you a better person, whatever that means to you. Then touch someone else’s life with this ‘new and improved’ person you've become. It doesn’t have to be a big production either, but do it before it’s too late.
One of my life’s biggest regrets may seem trivial, but it disturbs me to this day. During my mother's life, for whatever reason, had never had a Chicago-style Italian Beef sandwich, but would frequently talk about wanting to try one when I was a teenager. When I was in high school, I worked at an Italian Beef/Hotdog stand, and I always had the intention to bring one home to surprise her. Being an absent-minded teenager, I would forget to do so. I stopped working there and the years and decades past, and she’d jokingly bring it up on occasion with the subtle suggestion that she sincerely wanted an Italian beef sandwich. It became a running gag for us and only us. She didn't share this with anyone else in the family. Fast forward: she passed away a few years ago, and several months later it hit me that I never took her out to have an Italian beef sandwich. So little effort and time could’ve made that little wish come true for my mom. Yes, she could’ve gotten one herself, but she wanted to do that with me. I can’t articulate how much this haunts me.
So whatever you decide to do today, make it a good thing for yourself and someone else. It can be a big thing or a trivial one. Just make a positive impact. Lest we forget, that any tyrant or ignoramus can change the world. It takes a special person to improve it. Think about how much time you have left. Then think again. It’s less than you know. Do something good for yourself and someone else today.
