Wanda Blake

For Wanda, cooking is all about serving others. It’s about culture. It’s about connection. It’s about relating with others over a flavor, a dish, or a meal. Wanda grew up in San Francisco in an ultra diverse community eating all kinds of foods.

In 2015, Wanda launched Wanda’s Cooking Pop-up restaurant events in the Bay Area. A few years later, the website started an online pantry with, Pepper Chowchow, Creole Spice and Take-out meals. Wanda’s Cooking has collaborated with Nourishment Fund to provide meals to Black Women in Oakland.  We’re looking forward to other collaborations with Black Farmers and local food providers who want to serve the community through food.

Brandi Mack

Brandi Mack is a holistic health educator, therapeutic massage therapist, birth consultant , master gardener and permaculture designer. She holds a bachelor's degree in Human Service Management, and a permaculture certification from Starhawk's Earth Activist Training. Brandi is motivated to work in community, particularly with women and girls. Brandi’s mission is to “bring holistic health to the hood” Brandi published a newsletter, “Holistic Pathways”, as a way to spread and educate the community at large. Brandi currently is the CEO and National Director of The Butterfly Movement.

Dante Ball

Gumbo is nothing new for Chef Dontaye. His grandma first served it to him when he was eight, and it made a deep impression. He recalls her cooking the roux slowly with a wooden spoon in a cast-iron skillet. He never forgot his first bowl. And over the years he learned to blend his knowledge of traditional African stews with his classic French Escoffier training. He firmly believes that the pot should taste as the cook is feeling at that moment. And right now, he’s feeling better than ever.

Vanessa Williams

(Not from the "Soul Food" Film or TV Series stellar nonetheless)

Vanessa is an educator, advocate, and lover of the outdoors. She is passionate about working with and advocating for BIPOC folks, especially Black youth, to have access to the natural world, healthy food, and environmental justice. She has experience in environmental education, gardening, and biology which she cultivated during her time at the garden education non-profits Education Outside and CommunityGrows, as well as during her undergrad studies at Pacific Lutheran University where she received her BS in Biology. She is currently serving as the Director of Programs at CommunityGrows.
