North Perth Library Scavenger Hunt
NEW THIS YEAR! In lieu of Roaming Santa which does not meet covid safety requirements we are offering our community a scavenger hunt. Working with the North Perth Public Library, we will have holiday books displayed at various Listowel businesses to find. Starting November 26 and running to December 4, the community can look for the businesses and books and enter to win. Books will be placed at the store front window. The winner will win shop local dollars to put back in the community.

Deck the Halls - Listowel Open House Weekend November 26, 27 and 28
To kick start the holiday season, the Listowel BIA and the North Perth Chamber of Commerce is promoting a Listowel Open House Weekend on November 26 to 28. Let's invite the community and visitors to shop for all they need for the holiday season during Deck the Halls - Listowel Style! Our town will be decorated, Santa will make a visit in the Annual Drive Thru Parade and we want to promote our businesses! If you are having a sale or event during that weekend or from now until December, tell us about it and we will advertise for you! Contact us today to join in this fun weekend!
Business Decorating Contest
The Listowel BIA invites and encourages you to help transform the town by decorating your business storefront and windows for the holiday season! As in past years, our community will have the chance to vote for their favourite and the top ten will be judged. The winner will receive either $500 in shop local dollars or in advertising of their choice. They will also be featured on our website, social media and the Listowel Banner. 2020 Resident Decorating Contest
To recognize residents that go above and beyond in decorating their home for the winter holiday season, the Listowel BIA is once again hosting a Resident Holiday Decorating Contest. The contest begins on November 16 with a deadline submission of December 11. Winners will be announced December 18. All winners will be awarded shop local dollars. For more details, visit HERE.
Shop Dollar Promotion This year the Listowel BIA and the North Perth Chamber are teaming up for a promotion that PAYS-IT-FORWARD. Anyone who purchases Shop Local Dollars from Libro Credit Union from November 12 to December 19 will automatically be entered into a random draw to win one of four ‘Pay-It-Forward’ Shop Local Dollar prize packages of $250. For more information see HERE. If you are not accepting shop local dollars, please reach out to us to learn about this program which currently has over 70 local businesses participating.
Decorating the Town
The Listowel BIA will kick off the holiday season by decorating the town.  We hope you enjoy what we do!  Decorating will start November 12! A big thank you to our volunteers who give their time and energy to make our community more festive every year.
Home for the Holidays - Coupon Booklet 2020
The Listowel BIA is sponsoring the holiday booklet of savings. This booklet is filled with coupons from many businesses in Listowel offering sales to help you with all of your holiday shopping this year. It will be available November 19 in the Independent Plus as well as our location and others throughout town. Thanks to all of our businesses who participated in this program to promote shopping and dining in Listowel.
Promotions During the Holiday Season
The Listowel BIA will be promoting shopping during the holiday season in many ways this year. Look for our posts on social media, our website, and the North Perth Municipality website. We will also be using print and radio. If you have promotions during this time, please tag us or contact us so we can share.
The Annual North Perth Chamber of Commerce Santa Claus Parade
The Annual Santa Claus Parade will be held on Saturday, November 28 from 11 to 3 at the Listowel Memorial Park.  Due to Covid, it will look a little different this year and will be a drive thru version. This new format will meet all Covid safety protocols but still provide a fun experience for families. Santa will be making a visit! Character Week 2020
The Listowel BIA is pleased to support Character Week 2020. We know that many of our businesses are members of Community of Character and like our businesses, we believe strongly that a community that includes everyone is stronger.
Digital Service Squad in Perth County
Perth County is pleased to offer the assistance of their NEW Digital Service Squad! Clara Leney has recently joined their team with a passion for helping small businesses adapt to changing technologies. While Clara can help you complete your Digital Assessment and Digital Transformation Grant application, the purpose of the new Digital Service Squad is also to provide free, one-on-one assistance to the businesses of North Perth for the next few months. Areas of assistance range from website development, e-commerce set up, social media account creation, digital resource provision, training and more. Clara is here to help you build your online presence and promote and sell successfully online! Provincial COVID Updates:

  • Yesterday, the Provincial Government announced the introduction of the Keeping Ontario Safe and Open Framework. This framework categorizes Ontario’s public health unit regions into five levels: Green-Prevent, Yellow-Protect, Orange-Restrict, Red-Control, and Lockdown. Each level outlines the types of public health and workplace safety measures required for businesses and organizations. This new framework will be in effect starting November 7, 2020.   • The Provincial Government has provided some new material in the guide to developing your COVID-19 workplace safety plan. The guide provides a framework for managing workplace risks from COVID-19. The recent revisions include new or updated information about several evolving topics including: active screening of workers, air flow/ventilation, what to do if there is a case of COVID-19 in the workplace, and the use of masks as source control. In addition, the existing guidance note for the Restaurant and Food Services sector has also been updated to integrate key content from the Safety Plan and to provide information about the different uses of masks in the workplace as well as clarity on the use of masks with eye protection as personal protective equipment. 
  • The Ontario Government announced the Main Street Recovery Plan, which includes proposed legislation that would provide one-time grants of up to $1,000 for eligible main street small businesses with two to nine employees—in retail, food and accommodations, and other service sectors—to help offset the unexpected costs of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • The Provincial Government has proposed an extension on the ban of commercial evictions to align with the extension for the Canada Emergency Commercial Rent Assistance (CECRA) program. In addition, the government has proposed freezing residential rent increases in 2021. You can find more information about these rent announcements HERE.
  • As a reminder, the Provincial Government announced that businesses and organizations are required to comply with any advice, recommendations and instructions issued by the Office of the Chief Medical Officer of Health on screening for COVID-19. Businesses and organizations are required to screen their workers and essential visitors who enter the work environment; this requirement does not include customers entering groceries stores, restaurants, etc.). The government has released their COVID-19 Screening Tool for Workplaces, which includes the questions that are required to be used in the screening.

Federal COVID Updates:

  • The federal government announced that Bill C-9, An Act to Amend the Income Tax Act (Canada Emergency Rent Subsidy and Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy), was introduced. This legislation includes the new Canada Emergency Rent Subsidy (CERS) and the extension of the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy (CEWS). The Canada Emergency Rent Subsidy would provide rent and mortgage interest support to directly to tenants and property owners until June 2021 for qualifying organizations. CERS will support businesses, charities, and non-profit organizations that have experienced a revenue drop by providing support of up to 65% of eligible expenses until December 19, 2020; future parameters in 2021 to be adapted and targeted as needed. The legislation includes a proposal to allow claims retroactively for the period September 27 – October 24, 2020. The Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy would be extended until June 2021. The wage subsidy would remain at the current rate of up to 65% of eligible wages until December 19, 2020.
  • Today, the Minister of Small Business, Export Promotion and International Trade announced new measures to help Canadian small businesses access global markets amid COVID-19. More information on the CanExport SMEs program, including how to apply for funding, can be found HERE.
  • The Federal Government announced that they will be providing $12 million in funding to the Canada United Small Business Relief Fund. Canada United was created by RBC in collaboration with private sector partners and provincial and territorial chambers of commerce, including the Ontario Chamber of Commerce (OCC). Through the Canada United Small Business Relief Fund, small business owners can apply for a grant of up to $5,000 to help cover the costs of purchasing PPE, making physical modifications to their business to meet local health and safety requirements, and enhance their digital/e-commerce capabilities. Applications for the Fund will open on October 26, 2020.
  • The Federal Government will extend the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy (CEWS) program. Previously set to expire in December, the program will now run into summer 2021.
  • The Federal Government has indicated that the Business Credit Availability Program (BCAP) is being extended until June 2021. The BCAP supports the flow of additional credit that businesses need to maintain operations and keep employees on the payroll.
  • The Federal Government introduced Bill C-2 to create the three temporary recovery benefits that the federal government announced on August 20, 2020. Subject to Royal Ascent, the new benefits outlined in Bill C-2 will provide income support to Canadians who are unable to work for reasons related to COVID-19.
  • The Federal Government announced that the Canada Emergency Business Account (CEBA) will be available to businesses that have been using personal banking accounts. In order to determine eligibility for CEBA, applicants can use a pre-screening tool or visit the CEBA website. CEBA provides interest free loans of up to $40,000 to small businesses and non-profit organizations that have experienced decreases in revenues due to COVID-19. The government has announced it’s plan to expand the CEBA program by providing an additional interest free loan of $20,000 of which half will be forgiven if the balance of the loan is paid by December 31, 2022. More details will be provided about the expansion of the CEBA program when they are available. 
Updated Public Health Instructions

As a reminder, on September 21, Public Health updated their instructions for operators of businesses and organizations. The purpose of the instructions is to outline your responsibilities as required by Huron Perth Public Health during the COVID-19 pandemic. To help support your organization or business in implementing these updated instructions, they have created a Step-by-Step COVID-19 Prevention: Business and Organization Tool Kit.

Shop Local North Perth is an e-commerce marketplace hosted by the Municipality of North Perth with the purpose of supplying an online platform to support and connect North Perth businesses with buyers.
