It’s been a great year for women. After an uprising against sexual harassment, incivility and misogyny like we haven’t seen for many years – perhaps decades – women in Maine and the U.S. are proudly speaking out about their beliefs and taking the lead to change the current social and political climate.
We’re integral to the solution.
- We give. In 2018, we granted nearly $140,000 to a diverse group of non-profits dedicated to serving Maine women and girls throughout the state. For example, these organizations are working with middle school girls learning critical thinking and inclusivity; with Hispanic women Downeast to create new lives for themselves and their families; and with survivors of sex trafficking, who are teaching police how to identify the signs of trafficking. We’re able to identify, track and support these organizations and their demonstrated commitment to building a more just and caring society, in which women and girls thrive so communities prosper. We plan to give more in 2019.
- We educate. At our second annual Women Mean Business event, we discussed the importance of investing in women at all levels. Topics ranged from tapping into personal financial investments, to leveraging company investments in women in leadership. We plan to grow the conversation and community learning in 2019.
- We connect. This year, we provided opportunities for women, men, and youth to connect at our annual Leadership Luncheon, the Grant Reveal party, and the Swift Social Justice Grant Celebration. We plan to provide more opportunities for collaboration and connection.
