Accountability
It's not a concept that seems to be in vogue these days. In a society saturated with the inclination to shift blame, to avoid responsibility, and to hide behind anonymity, it feels like we've largely abandoned this crucial cornerstone of character. But we must understand that accountability is not a punishment; it's a tool. It's a tool to help us grow, to make us stronger, and to remind us of the importance of our actions and decisions.
In a culture where we're often encouraged to 'follow our hearts', accountability pulls us back to reality. It reminds us that our actions have consequences, and that our 'hearts' can often lead us astray. It's an invitation to honesty, integrity, and personal growth. We need accountability because it compels us to face the hard truth about ourselves: that we're flawed, that we make mistakes, and that we have a responsibility to fix those mistakes whenever and wherever we can. It's the antidote to a culture of passivity and evasion. It calls us to be active participants in our own lives, to be fully present in the unfolding narrative of our own story.
"It is time to restore the American precept that
each individual is accountable for his actions."
Ronald Reagan

Joy Overbeck has been on FIRE 🔥🔥🔥!
The following is a repost of Joy's update from the Douglas County Commissioners meeting concerning Drag Queen shows at the Douglas County Fair Grounds. This was posted on FB.
DOUGCO DRAG QUEEN UPDATE - The Douglas County Commissioners voted unanimously at their 5/9 business meeting NOT TO protect children from sexually explicit PrideFest drag queen shows at our taxpayer-funded Douglas County Fairgrounds. Last year a bearded man dressed in fishnet tights and spangles danced provocatively and aimed his exposed butt cheeks directly in front of small children in the audience just feet away. Another bearded fake woman with bared fake breasts/nipples, gyrated onstage, belting out this song: “Sex is in the air, I don’t care, I love the smell of it/ sticks and stones may break my bones but chains and whips excite me.” Promoting sado-masochism to children violates Colorado statutes – Criminal code statute 18-97-102 prohibits an obscene performance to a minor and is a class 6 felony. CO statute 18-7-30 defines public indecency as lewd exposure of an intimate body part, including realistic plastic breasts according to the county’s attorney. TO BE CLEAR: the Commissioners voted for more law-breaking, more fake breasts obscenity, more sexual twerking. Children don’t know the difference between realistic plastic breasts and the real thing. PrideFest festivities also included “KIDS TIME” with Drag Queen Story Time for toddlers starting at age THREE. Another video shows young girls onstage in a drag dance contest, mimicking the drag queens sexual dancing – can we say “recruitment”?
Speakers at public comment (including me) said we all defend the First Amendment right of freedom of speech, but we asked the Commissioners to restrict an obviously sexual adult show to an indoors venue at the Fairgrounds – ADULTS ONLY. Instead, Commissioners Laydon and Thomas arrogantly lectured us that they had taken an oath to uphold the Constitution and essentially called us bigots and book-burners, even though we said we uphold freedom of speech. Laydon in his backhanded way actually labeled us FASCISTS. These are our elected representatives. They are all alleged Republicans. Laydon made a point of saying he identifies with the lgbtq community – if he were honest he would have recused himself because of obvious bias. But none of them are honest. Laydon claimed these aggressive in-children’s-faces sexual performances are the same thing as children seeing scantily clad Broncos cheerleaders hundreds of feet away on a football field! Thomas asked, “What should I tell parents who want to take their kids to drag shows? They can bring them to R-rated movies…” Really? She doesn’t know the difference between a corporate-owned movie theater and a taxpayer-funded Fairgrounds? I say – tell them to hire a drag queen for their kid’s next birthday party!
Then Thomas and Laydon brought up mental health - children identifying as lgbtq have a higher rate of suicide. Let’s think a minute. Do you think these poor kids may be sexually confused and suicidal partly because the lgbtq lobby targets children at drag shows with bearded men dressed as women at childrens’ most vulnerable time while they’re suffering through the emotional and mental insecurity and turbulence of pre-adolescence? Could they be depressed and suicidal because they are just figuring out who they are and the lgbtq promoters/recruiters/performers tell them and show them they were born “in the wrong body?” Will these Commissioners ever see they have become part of the lgbtq promoters/recruiters endangering the mental and emotional health of our children with gender confusion that can lead to suicide? Oh – and these same Commissioners have showered grant money on Castle Rock PrideFest for suicide prevention!
Teal was probably the biggest disappointment because we had heard him bravely vow for months at public meetings to protect children from these Fairground drag sex shows. Nope. Instead he blathered something about “beginning to commence to start” and voted for the new language in the Fairgrounds contract. What a hypocrite. After weeks of arduous deliberation in Executive Session the Commissioners all voted for new Fairgrounds contract language requiring only “Family Friendly” events at the Fairgrounds. Also banning any events “Similar to a Sexually Oriented Business.” BUT guess what – NONE OF THIS CHANGES DRAG QUEEN SHOWS – THEY ARE STILL WELCOMED! What a joke. PrideFest has booked three entire days of this – 72 hours altogether starting August 25 at the outdoor stage and indoors at Kirk Hall where they should be restricted to Adults Only but are not. BUT WAIT - the PrideFest folks solemnly promised this year their shows will be “G-rated” – after all they apologized for “wardrobe malfunction” last year. Totally ludicrous since multiple performances featured lengthy displays of deliberately flaunted fake breasts. And the performers can be heard mocking the very idea of “family friendly” while gesturing to a large FAMILY FRIENDLY EVENT poster behind them. Nevertheless, incredibly the Commissioners believed them. They’ve never heard “fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me”? Shame on them.
Reply from Abe Laydon
"I am going to continue to support liberty principles and the Constitution of the United States, particularly the First Amendment, but of course with all the legal time, place, and manner restrictions to ensure our venues are not being used to display activity that is illegal. The organizers of Castle Rock Pride have already issued an apology for the wardrobe malfunction that occurred at the Douglas County PrideFest and have stated they are adding additional steps and oversight to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.
I will not use the power of government to support thinly veiled bigotry and anti-gay rhetoric. I am often reminded and encouraged that there are a huge number of compassionate Republicans and Christians, including myself, my wife, family, friends, and colleagues, who support liberty, affirm love, and would not appreciate me wielding the power of the government to discriminate against people. I represent everyone in this county and will continue to respect the rights of all people."
How about calling and emailing these Commissioners and telling them what you think!

This month I continued to dive deeper into the Republican House Members that voted for the Democrat Chair for the Colorado House on January 9, 2023. I explored the Liberty score relationships with these disloyal elected officials.
“2023 FINAL Liberty Scorecard, Colorado" The letter grades are brutal.
Click Here to see the Full Report
The first grouping is all of our Colorado House Republican members and Bob
Marshall, since he is in Douglas County, he serves as some contrast.
| |
- The average Liberty Score for those members that voted for the
Republican Chair, 72.81.
- The *** before names are members that voted for the Democrat Chair.
- The average Liberty Score for those who did vote for a Democrat Chair, 61.16.
- Representatives that voted for the Democrat Chair scored almost 12 full points lower.
Elected officials who choose to vote against their party betray a disconcerting lack of loyalty and disrupt the collective strength that a unified party front represents. This kind of political behavior undermines the party's objectives and can fracture the support base that bolsters it. The party platform is a contract of shared values and policies, established with the input and consent of its members, to present a unified strategy for governance. By flouting this contract, these officials devalue the collective bargaining power of their party and, in turn, impede the potential for substantive policy progress.
Furthermore, these officials justify their actions with the facade of serving their constituents' interests. However, they forget that they were elected under a party banner, which inherently signifies the trust placed in them by the voters to uphold the party's principles and policies. By voting against their party, they are essentially reneging on the promises made to their constituents, confusing the political landscape and sowing seeds of mistrust among voters. This political maneuvering is self-serving and opportunistic, eroding faith in the democratic process and fostering cynicism among the electorate.

Douglas County Continues to Move Left
Montana became the latest state to ban sex change procedures on minors after Republican governor Greg Gian, signed a bill into law protecting children from life-altering treatments. Governor Greg signed Senate Bill 99, known as the Youth Health Protection Act. The bill banned surgeries like elected double mastectomies on girls who identify as boys and prohibits puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones for children. He is committed to protecting Montana's children from invasive medical treatments that can permanently alter their healthy, developing bodies.
So here comes Montana representative Zooey Sapphire. Sapphire. obviously not his real name. I'm not sure what his real name is, but I'm sure it's not Zooey Sapphire.
Rep. Zooey Sapphire told lawmakers, "they would have blood on your hands if they banned gender-affirming medical care."
Republicans have refused to let Zooey Sapphire speak on the chamber floor until he apologizes for his undignified remarks.
Further, a District Court Judge recently ruled to uphold the ban. The ruling came after attorneys for the state of Montana asked the judge to reject Zooey’s attempt to return.
District Court Judge Mike Menahan said it was outside his authority to overrule the Legislature and return Zooey Sapphire to the House floor.
Such a move “would require this court to interfere with legislative authority in a manner that exceeds this court’s authority,” Menahan wrote in his five-page ruling.
This sparked our progressive Colorado legislature to send a letter to the Montana House asking for Rep. Zooey Zephyr to be allowed back into the chamber.

Douglas County School Board
Although I see nothing happening from the Douglas County School Board on approving FASTER-trained teachers or adding additional SRO's.
We need to give props to Mike Peterson and the Board for pushing to curtail CRT in our Douglas County Schools.
After more than a year, on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, the Douglas County School Board passed on a 4-to-2 vote a revise the equity policy.
At the Tuesday night meeting, scores of community members called for eradicating the equity policy altogether. Thank you to everyone that spoke. Each and every one of you made a difference.
As for Elizabeth Hanson, who sat on the Board for District "C", she resigned! Not much I saw was shared on naming a replacement.
Send Mike Peterson a "Thank You"

This November, there will be 3 seats open on the Douglas County School Board. You can bet that the Dems are already foaming at the mouth to win/keep these seats. AND I DON'T WANT TO HEAR THAT THIS IS A NON-PARTISAN RACE.
- District A - Susan Meek (West Highlands Ranch)
- District C - Elizabeth Hanson (Central and South Highlands Ranch)
- District F - David Ray - term limited (Parker Area)
We need to find individuals to run for the school board with strong conservative principles. They also need to be willing to challenge opposition in allowing FASTER-trained (or equivalent) teachers to carry sidearms in school.
They also need a strong opposition to all things CRT that are still being allowed in DougCo schools. (see the article above)
Candidates need to live in the districts that are opening. The entire county will vote for all of the candidates.
If you are thinking about running, I would like to hear from you. Contact Mark Here

Town of Parker not budging concerning the rainbow town logo
In every aspect of civic life, participation is key. It is through involvement, voicing concerns, and advocating for change that we can mold our communities into places that reflect our values. Therefore, I want to extend a heartfelt thanks to the patriots who take the time to write their town council members concerning the logo. Your emails and phone calls do more than simply express an opinion; they signify a deep commitment to maintaining a robust democratic process and preserving the well-being of our community.
Each message sent to the Town Manager and Town Council member represents an act of engagement, a stepping stone towards a more responsive, accountable government. You demonstrate that the will of the people is not a passive phenomenon but an active force for progress. By raising your voices and standing for your beliefs, you continue a grand tradition of civic involvement that lies at the heart of our nation's principles. The passion you exhibit today carries forward the legacy of all the patriots who have come before us, helping to ensure that our democracy remains vibrant and alive for generations to come. Thank you for your dedication and for embodying the true spirit of our republic.
In all the responses that you shared, the Town of Parker is not changing its direction. This is just another step in moving the Overton Window in the Town of Parker to the left.
Remember this when election season is here, and there are Parker Town Council seats to fill.

So, a question you might have is, “why Honey Badger”?
Honey Badgers have been described in the Guinness Book of Records as the "most fearless animal in the world" and can even fight off much larger predators like lions and hyenas if challenged. We know the political landscape is filled with hyenas, thus, we need the Honey Badger.
If you have a Parker or Douglas County topic that needs attention brought to it, please submit it to: Honey Badger Report, mark.hampton@comcast.net. I will review it and see about adding it to the monthly publication.
