The Hoofbeat: April 2018
Celebrating National Volunteer Appreciation Week
April 15-21
A message from Dawn Nelson, Volunteer Director:

Today is a day to remind all of you just how much our volunteers are appreciated. In honor of National Volunteer Appreciation Week April 15-21, it is my pleasure on behalf of the staff and Board of Directors, to formally express our gratitude to all Hearts volunteers! We currently have 146 active volunteers and last year alone, our volunteers completed over 16,000 hours of volunteer service. WOW!

When I think of volunteers, I think of time and values. In our lives, one thing we cannot create, accumulate, acquire, buy or even borrow is time. Time is a precious commodity - we have a limited amount of time for sleep, work, family and our own interests. When we choose to volunteer on a consistent basis we choose to support an activity to benefit others through service and sacrifice. We have found value in placing the needs of another above our own. The true volunteer chooses to give up their personal time and energy and expend it to help others.

All of our amazing volunteers deserve a thank you. We thank them for believing in themselves and in their efforts. We thank them for spending countless hours making a difference. We thank them for their inspiration. We thank them for filling water buckets, for sweeping the office, for your footsteps in the arena, for supporting EFL, for joining the Barn Crew in the early morning hours. The list is endless. Big or small, they all deserve a thank you. While we are grateful for our volunteers everyday, we especially look forward to celebrating them during the week of April 15-21!

In Appreciation,

Upcoming Events
Dear Hearts Friends and Family,

It has been a busy spring and we are all looking forward to our Annual Student Horse Show on the 21 st of this month! Our riders and participants look forward to this day all year, as they get to show off all the skills that they have learned and worked so hard on developing. It’s truly our mission in action – and we so hope that all of you can join us! Of course, it wouldn’t be possible without our wonderful sponsors and amazing volunteers – and we are so grateful to have everyone’s help.

April is also Volunteer Appreciation Month – and while we always are grateful for our volunteers, we really want to pass on our deep appreciation and thankfulness to the many, many wonderful people that support Hearts’ programming. We truly could not do what we do without all the many helping hands.

Coming up in May, on the 5 th , is our Barn Dance , which will be held at the Carriage and Western Art Museum again. Our co-chairs and committee have created a fabulous event, with delicious food, beverages, dancing, and auctions. Tickets are on sale at here and if you are a volunteer, you can contact Morgan at morgan@heartsriding.org for our special volunteer priced tickets for you and a guest.

We hope to see all of you at one of these special events – celebrating Hearts’ successes with you is always a special time for all of the staff and board members – we are so grateful for all of your support of our mission.

In gratitude,

Pamme Mickelson
Executive Director
