April is National Volunteer Month!
|
|
Our volunteers are the heartbeat of Hearts- without them, we would not be able to serve our riders as effectively and efficiently as we do. Hearts volunteers not only provide help with sessions and facilities, they provide a positive and accepting group that support Hearts’ riders, staff, and horses. Volunteers start out by receiving training as sidewalkers or barn crew, and as they volunteer their time at Hearts they begin to grow in their horsemanship skills and comradery with one another. The Hearts volunteers emotionally and physically support our riders in sessions by providing encouragement, smiles, and hand-over-hand help or appropriate holds when needed. For our horses, volunteers are providers of positive energy, love, and of course- carrots!
Hearts would not be able to provide the same level of service as we do without our volunteer team. Hearts volunteers are truly the heartbeat that keeps Hearts pumping!

DOB: 1/10/2009
Breed: Clydesdale
Height: 17’3”
Dobbin arrived in early 2018 and had an instant fan base. He was a backyard horse who was so gentle and self-aware that his little girl used to put him in their horse trailer in a bathing suit and NO SHOES (do not try this at home!). He is the most sensitive horse on the property. Anyone who has either worked with him or ridden him knows that he requires a good amount of processing time before he willingly responds to a request. It’s not that he’s being non-compliant; it’s just that he needs ample time to think about what’s been asked of him, and how best to accommodate that request. He is super comfy to ride, and has the best, floppiest lower lip ever!

Nathaniel's Bar Mitzvah Project
|
|
Hi my name is Nate. As part of my Bar Mitzvah preparation, I am doing a mitzvah project to help improve my community. My goal is to raise $2000 for Heart Therapeutic Equestrian Center here in Santa Barbara, CA.
Hearts helps kids and adults who have difficulties in overcoming fears and helps to create a place of strength, confidence and inspiration for those with different needs, just like me. I have ADHD that I have been riding here for nearly four years, I have gained self-confidence, physical strength, improved my ability to focus, as well as developed an appreciation and rapport with the horses and staff. My big sister, Rebekah raised $2000 for Hearts, as part of her Bat Mitzvah project two years ago. I hope to match or beat that number for my mitzvah project because I want to help more kids and adults at Hearts. The money raised will go towards improvements for the main arena, which is desperately needed.
Please help me reaching this goal!
Thanks!
-Nate
