Caron has been a volunteer at Hearts for nearly six years. When she arrived as a new volunteer, she knew very little about horses. Over the years, Caron has developed her horsemanship skills and has grown to love interacting with other volunteers, community members, and the horses.
Last year, Caron embarked on an 8 day riding excursion in Iceland with a herd of 53 horses. She came back to Santa Barbara and the minute she spotted Rakel at Hearts, she knew she was like the solid footed Icelandic horses. That’s when she decided she wanted to sponsor Rakel. Caron shares, “I've had the gift of being able to ride her and she’s solid, forward, kind and an amazing beast. She’s exotic and a joy to look at. I was drawn to her like a magnet.”
Like so many others, Caron expresses that being at Hearts feeds her soul, while challenging her both physically and mentally. For those reasons, Caron wanted to commit to Hearts on a deeper level, which has led her to sponsor Rakel.

Hearts relies on our herd of specially trained horses to be able to provide valuable services to our community. Having happy and healthy horses is essential to providing safe and effective programs to our participants. All of our horses are sponsored by donors. These gifts not only support the individual therapy horse, they enable our clients to benefit from our therapeutic services and experience the joy of our Hearts community!
Because the care of our horses is covered by donations, Hearts is able to keep costs low for participants. Sponsoring a horse allows more participants to have access to the life-changing benefits of our programs.
