Vol. 5, Issue 1 | December 2021
Message from the Superintendent
Dear HUSD Community,
As we enter winter break I wanted to share a message of appreciation and gratitude with the Hayward community. I think we all were hoping that 2021 would be easier than 2020. In many ways, it has been just as difficult. From the Delta variant to difficult discussions regarding school closures, it’s been very challenging. At the same time, there is much to celebrate. We opened our schools for in-person learning this year after several months of remote learning and it has been wonderful to have our students back. We also successfully launched a virtual independent study program to accommodate families who were not ready to send their students back to school. This week, schools have had various holiday shows and it’s so nice to have students and families back on campus for performances and holiday cheer.

I want to wish you a safe and joyful holiday break. Please take this break to celebrate and enjoy time with friends and family. I’m looking forward to an exciting 2022!

Matt Wayne, Ed.D., Superintendent
