Dear HUSD Community,
Congratulations to the Class of 2019! Our students will represent Hayward well at every UC campus, nearly every CSU campus, and at universities across the country. We wish them well on the next chapter of their educational journey. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed shaking every student’s hand at our graduation as they accept their diplomas with pride, enthusiasm, and a sense of accomplishment. Here I am with a Tennyson High School student who is from our first graduating class of our biomedical career pathway. Please see below to learn more about this innovative program.
I’m also proud to share that after four months of work, the District Advisory Committee presented a
draft strategic plan
to the board of education at the June 5th meeting. The presentation was a powerful display of our community’s commitment to improving the educational experience for our students and families. I want to thank our students, parents, community members, and staff for their commitment to this process. I look forward to providing our community with more details regarding the implementation of our strategic plan and
the four key areas we believe are important for us to address in order to be a successful district.
This summer, we will also celebrate two important milestones. Cherryland Elementary will host a grand opening event to commemorate the completion of their new school. Look out for more information about that community celebration. We are also excited that the demolition and construction of Harder Elementary will commence this summer. Upgrading our facilities is a major priority of the district and we are focused on providing quality learning environments for our students.
Enjoy your summer break.
Remember that this can and should be a time for your children to continue reading, learning, and exploring.
I look forward to welcoming new and returning students for the 2019-20 school year.
