Dear Beloved Community,
I walked into the House Next Door this morning, turned up the heat, emptied out my briefcase, spread my work over the dining room table, stopped, and thought...I can't, I just can't...and proceeded to go home where I cried my eyes out for the next hour.
Why was I crying? For many reasons, but mostly because of my fear of ICE and the threat it poses to everyone not born in the United States.
| | | | | |
Most days I try not to let my fear win out over my faith, making sure that it doesn't have the last word; but today was not one of those days. And so I sat on my couch and cried from the center of my soul. And then I watched the birds.
Ever since last weekend's storm, the birds have been a constant presence, flying back and forth between our dogwood tree and the birdfeeder hanging right outside our family room window. Our winter guests are such a source of joy for me with their color, variety, activity, and song. As they did for so many of us in the long winter of the pandemic, the birds have returned once again to bring me hope, to bring us hope.
| | | |
What gives you hope these days? What brings you joy? What do you do when fear feels like it's stomping all over your faith? Have you considered sitting in a circle?
I am so blessed. Every week I get to sit in a circle with people of faith for group spiritual direction, retreats, Dinner Church, Wednesdays Away or Beyond Book Club. No matter the topic, no matter who is sitting in the circle, no matter how I arrive, I always leave filled with hope. Always.
I invite you to join one of our circles. Name your fears; bring your tears. Be a part of the community. Numerous opportunities are listed below. I promise that no matter what brings you here, you will be reminded that you are not alone, and you will leave filled with hope.
Grace and Peace,
Dale

"An Ignation Workout"
Led by Dale Selover
Pastor, Spiritual Director and Retreat Leader
In his book, An Ignatian Workout, Tim Muldoon uses the language of St. Paul to invite us to be spiritual athletes, engaging in a forty-day Lenten workout using the spiritual exercises of St. Ignatius. Ignatius wrote these exercises so that we would know God’s love intimately and to help us deepen our relationship with God. Let’s work out together this Lent; it’s always more fun with a friend!
