UWI Women's Cricket Team

The UWI Women's Cricket Club (WCC), representing the University of the West Indies (UWI) in St. Augustine, Trinidad, competes in the Trinidad & Tobago Women's Cricket Association (TTWCA) Championship Division. They participate in both 30-over and T20 competitions. After finishing second in the Championship Division in 2020, the WCC was promoted to the TTWCA Premiership Division. In August 2023, they made their Premiership Division debut, placing third in the 50-Over league and fourth in the T20 league. Their success is attributed to hard work, commitment, camaraderie, an experienced coach, and supportive fans.

Led by Stephanie Judith Power, a former West Indies captain, the WCC's leadership team has driven the club to new heights. Under the captaincy of Dwarika-Baptiste, the team won three titles in four years. Players credit their achievements to several factors: dedication, strong team spirit, an experienced coach, and a motivating fan base.

Team member and manager Nadra Dwarika-Baptiste said, “She was our first [female] coach, and to achieve what she laid out for us was really something else.” Power, who joined the team in 2018, had predicted their promotion to the premiership within two years, which they achieved in 2020.

The excitement around women's cricket continues to grow, with the WCC defeating Players Sports Club in their first exhibition game during the Point Fortin Borough Celebrations’ Week of Sport in May 2023. This was the first time two women's teams featured in the event. Internationally, viewership is at an all-time high, and regional competitions like the Women’s CPL are expanding to offer more career opportunities for athletes. Locally, Dwarika-Baptiste emphasizes that “support starts at home.” The Trinidad and Tobago Association of Georgia (TnTGA) was honored to host the WCC for their first international tournament during the Georgia Women Cricket Association Annual T20 Tournament, where they emerged as champions under the leadership of Captain Stacy Ann King.

Congratulations to the UWI Women's Cricket Club
