October 06, 2025 / Robert S. Hyer Elementary School

Dear Hyer Families,

Fall is such an exciting time with the cooler weather (still waiting on this!), and fun activities coming our way. As we settle into the rhythm of the school year, you will see in the Husky Herald over the next few weeks that October brings several annual events, and many ways you can get involved in experiences to support our students, teachers and school.

Our incredible PTA, Dads Club and countless volunteers have spent hours and hours planning Bike Safety Week, the BMX show, and our traditional Bike Rodeo at the end of this week - a Husky fall favorite! We have Red Ribbon Week coming later this month and of course, a Halloween dress up day on the 31st. In addition to these events, our precious PTA continues to provide catered luncheons and a snack bar each month for the staff. Our fabulous Dads Club volunteers greet our students each morning as they open car doors. We are humbled and blessed by the generosity and time each of you and these groups gives to our school to make Hyer the loving community it is.

We are so grateful for your continued involvement in all things Hyer. Together, we can make this school year amazing for our students. If you have any questions, concerns, or ideas, don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher, me, PTA President Ellen Kershaw, or Dads Club President Wynn Radford.

Cheers to the beginning of fall at Hyer Elementary!

Kindly,

Debbie

PRINCIPAL APPRECIATION MONTH!!

October is "Principal Appreciation Month,” and boy do we have a lot to be grateful for! Principal Burt is truly the best of the best, and we feel so blessed to have her as the head of our beloved school. She is generous with her time and hugs, decisive and thoughtful as a leader, and brilliant as an educator. Principal Burt, thank you for setting the tone for our students and staff! Your wisdom and experience is a blessing to us all. As you see Principal Burt in the hallways or standing at the doors, give her a high five, fist bump or hug to let her know how much we love her!

BIKE RODEO!

Saddle up, Hyer Cowboys and Cowgirls! Bike riding can be thrilling and fun, but being a true Rodeo Rider means knowing the rules of the road so students (and parents) can ride safely around the neighborhood.

First through fourth grade students will saddle up for the ride. Scooters are welcome on the trail too! Preschool and kindergarten students will be our Rodeo Spectators, cheering on the riders from the sidelines.

  • A Map and Instructions to "Map your Route to Hyer" will go home today!
  • Art winners will be announced on Tuesday at the Bike Show.

- HUGE High Five to Lyndsey Parker - who lived in the library this past week executing the most incredible book fair! It was flawless and such a huge success for our school! Here's hoping we're all raising little book worms!!

- Also, to all you mamas who volunteered at the book fair - thank y'all so much!! You added such JOY to this week!

- Kyle Yohe is behind-the-scenes and offering such care and thought to families who need extra support or a "little sunshine." Kyle, you are what makes this school's community so unique.

- To Kristin Evans and her mom-squad of 4th grade chairs - thank you for hosting the 4th grade parents meeting, and scheming up all sorts of plans and traditions for your graduating babies!

- Kathryn Sontag - who is CRUSHING her speaker series job! She brought in AMAZING speakers last week and we packed the place with parents eager to learn all about kid's social and emotional health, anxiety and technology. So many nuggets of wisdom to munch on!

- And drumroll for our Dads Club and HPA!! They hosted a Friday night tailgate at Hyer, that had me singin' "I miss Mayberry, sitting on my porch drinkin' ice cold cherry coke" - feeling like we live in this idyllic small town where everyone knows each other's names and kids run freely and happily.
