October 05, 2026 / Robert S. Hyer Elementary School
Dear Hyer Families,
Hope your week is off to a great start! Many of our students were recognized for demonstrating the character trait of respect at our first Good Morning Hyer Assembly last week. It is always inspiring to see our students celebrate each at this school wide event. Coming up this week, we have our annual Bike Safety Week and Bike Rodeo. Countless volunteers have spent hours and hours planning Bike Safety Week, the BMX show, and our traditional Bike Rodeo which culminates the week. This experience is always a Husky fall favorite!
Thanks to your support and participation in our PTA and Dads Club, our staff, students and families have experienced some fun and meaningful activities throughout September.
- PTA Fall Gifting
- Fall Book Fair
- Dads Club Dads & Daughters Donuts
- Dads Club Teacher Appreciation Breakfast
- New umbrellas for staff from the Sameni and Sultan families
- PTA Teacher Appreciation Lunch
We are humbled and blessed by the generosity and time each of you and these groups give to our school to make Hyer the supportive and loving community it is.
The staff and I are so grateful for your continued involvement in all things Hyer. Together, we will make this school year amazing for our students. If you have any questions, concerns, or ideas, don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher, me, PTA President Megan Conlon, or Dads Club President Spencer Diebel.
Cheers to the beginning of fall at Hyer Elementary!
Warmly,
Debbie

We love our pets and yours, too! However, please remember that dogs are not allowed on school grounds at any time, including on the weekends in the playground area. | OCTOBER APPRECIATION MONTH CONTINUES!
Let’s shower our amazing principal with all the love she deserves! October is Principal Appreciation Month, and we’ll be collecting cards all month long to give to Principal Burt.
Please encourage your child (and yourself!) to write her a short note or draw a quick picture to let her know how much she is appreciated. You can drop your cards in the designated collection bins located in each grade-level pod.
Let’s fill those bins and show Principal Burt just how loved she is!
| | KC CLUB: PET FOOD DRIVE CONTINUES! | | |
The 4th Grade KC Club (Kindness and Compassion Club) is kicking off its first community service project of the year! The club will be collecting UNOPENED dog and cat food, treats, and bath towels to donate to Operation Kindness. Operation Kindness is a pioneer in Texas for assisting animals in need of veterinary care, companionship and, most of all, a home.
The food drive is up and running and will continue through Tuesday, October 13th. Donation bins will be located in the hallways and at the Caruth entrance.
KC Club members are very enthusiastic about helping cats and dogs in this lifesaving animal shelter, as well as having the pet food bank re-stocked and ready for the fall. Thank you in advance for your generous donations.
Please contact Community Service Chair Jen Lavelle with any questions.
| | FACILITIES APPRECIATION DAY THIS THURSDAY! | | |
We are excited to celebrate our amazing Facilities Team this Thursday, October 8th. Jesus Cristian, Gloria Esparza, Mirna Ortiz Hernandez, and Santos Machado Portillo do a fantastic job of keeping the school clean and ready for our Huskies, teachers, and staff every day. Hyer would not be the same without them. If you see them this week, please tell them thank you for all of their hard work!
| | ♟️ HYER CHESS TOURNAMENT SUCCESS! ♟️ | | |
This weekend, Hyer hosted a chess tournament welcoming students from all HPISD elementary schools. We were excited to have 70 students compete, including 27 Hyer students!
Beyond the wins and accomplishments, we were especially proud to see our students demonstrate such great sportsmanship. They cheered each other on, celebrated one another’s victories, and offered encouragement after challenging matches. The teamwork, kindness, and dedication displayed throughout the tournament truly made us proud.
Our students had an outstanding showing, with many earning individual placements and our teams placing in every grade level in which we had participants!
🏆 Hyer Team Results
♟️ Kindergarten – 1st Place
♟️ 1st Grade – 1st Place
♟️ 2nd Grade – 2nd Place
♟️ 3rd Grade – 1st Place
We are so proud of all our chess players for their hard work, sportsmanship, and the way they represented Hyer. Congratulations to everyone on a fantastic tournament!
Go Huskies! ♟️🐾
Great job team!
