April 06, 2026 / Robert S. Hyer Elementary School

Dear Parents,

Beginning next week, our 3rd and 4th grade students will be taking The State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness, commonly referred to as STAAR. These are a series of standardized tests used in Texas public schools to assess a student's achievements and knowledge learned in their current grade level. The STAAR test is based on state curriculum standards in core subjects. Our 3rd and 4th graders will be tested in reading/language arts on Thursday, April 9th, and in math on Wednesday, April 29th. It is important that students are at school and on time, especailly on testing days. Please let you child's teacher know if your 3rd or 4th grader will be absent on either day so that plans for make-up testing can be scheduled.

STAAR tests are designed to measure what students are learning in each grade and whether or not they are ready for the next grade. The goal is to ensure that all students receive what they need to be academically successful. The higher the mastery level on the test, the better prepared students are for the next grade level.

When test results are available to parents during the summer, HPISD will communicate how to access the results through Skyward. More information about testing has been sent to families from our 3rd and 4th grade teachers. Click HERE to read more information for parents about the STAAR tests.

Please remember that volunteers and visitors are not able to be on campus on testing days, unless a volunteer is working their cafeteria shift. Thank you kindly for your support and understanding.

Respectfully,

Debbie
