September 14, 2026 / Robert S. Hyer Elementary School

Hyer Families,

Our teachers and students are heavy into the curriculum at this point in the year, and the instruction happening in our classrooms is exceptional. Teachers are getting to know our students as learners and working to meet individual student needs. They are embracing and implementing our new math resources with fidelity, and the assignments and activities our students are doing is so purposeful. I have been very impressed by how hard both our teachers and students are working to ensure mastery of grade level skills.

A big shout out to our Dads Club and all their volunteers for the time they spend on carpool duty each week. Spencer Diebel, Dads Club President, has done a fabulous job bringing our dads together, and overseeing each activity and event. Our carpool volunteers bring positive energy and smiles to every student early each morning as they greet our students when they arrive at school. Show our Dads Club some love with a high-five next time you see them in the queue lane.

Gratefully,

Debbie

Debbie Burt, Principal

WRAP WRITING ASSESSMENT FOR GRADES 4-11

Students in grades 4 through 11 will be participating in the ERB Writing Assessment Program (WrAP) administration in their language arts class between September 14 and October 2. WrAP provides a direct measure of writing ability scored by human readers.

The assessment takes place in class over two days.

On day one, students receive a reading passage and prompt with an opportunity for planning and drafting. On day two, students revise and submit their final writing. The assessment is scored externally by human readers with a rubric based on content and mechanics. Individual Score Reports will be available for families to view in Skyward Portfolio at the end of the testing window.

Please contact your child’s classroom teacher or school counselor with any questions.

DADS CLUB

CALLING ALL DADS - THE FIRST DADS CLUB EVENT OF THE YEAR IS THIS THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 16TH!

The Dads Club will have our first event of the year Thursday, September 16th, at Odelay on Lovers Lane from 5-7:00 PM. We'd love to see any dads who are able to make it. Please note, parking there is limited, but you can utilize adjacent street parking, and carpooling or Uber are also sound options. In order to manage food and beverage needs, we'll send around an RSVP in the next few days so we have an idea of headcount.

Please contact Dads Club President Spencer Diebel with any questions.
