May 11, 2026 / Robert S. Hyer Elementary School

Wonderful Hyer Families,

As our annual Field Day approaches, we are excited to celebrate a day filled with fun, teamwork, and healthy competition. Our PTA, Dads Club and incredible volunteers have worked tirelessly to make this day an exciting and memorable experience for our sweet huskies. Thank you all for giving your time to make Friday the very best event for our kids. It will be a blast!

We believe that Field Day is not only an opportunity for physical activity, but also a chance to instill important values, such as good sportsmanship, in our students.

We kindly ask for your support in reinforcing the importance of good sportsmanship before, during, and after Field Day. Here are a couple ways we can work together to ensure a positive experience for everyone:

Remind your child to show respect to teammates, opponents, and parent volunteers. Encourage them to cheer for their classmates, regardless of the outcome. Positive encouragement can make a huge difference in boosting morale.

Emphasize the value of trying their best and giving their all in each activity. Winning is great, but effort and participation are equally important. Help your child understand that winning and losing are both part of any competition.

We believe that by promoting good sportsmanship, we can create a positive and inclusive environment where all students can enjoy Field Day to the fullest. Thank you for your continued support in teaching these valuable life lessons to our children.

Best regards,

Debbie

Hyer Elementary Principal

BOOK FARE SUCCESS!

Our first PTA-curated Book Fair was an incredible success!! It was so much fun to see our cafeteria filled with amazing books and eager readers! Thank you to our dream team who pulled this off! Leading the charge - Alicia Haddock and Katherine Hardaway! Supporting them with me... Megan Conlon, Ann Higginbottom, Misty Wall and Alyson Bell!

APPRECIATING OUR TEACHERS ALL WEEK!

Last week, we SMOTHERED our teachers and staff with goodies from the PTA! We stocked their lounge with salty and sweet treats, had Swig Drink Bar come serve dirty sodas and gifted them all a purse, hosted an outdoor lunch at the Higginbottoms - ordering beautiful weather to go with it!

We are so thankful for our teachers at Hyer!

They are the heartbeat of this school.

A NOTE FROM NURSE RATHER

As we are drawing near to the end of school, please stop by and pick up all medication that you have for your child in the clinic. Any medication not picked up on the last day of school will be discarded, as we are not allowed to store medications over the summer. This includes Epi-Pens, inhalers, and all prescription and over-the counter medications. Please contact Nurse Rather with any questions.

Thank you for a wonderful 2025-2026 school year.  Have a happy and healthy summer!

KC CLUB

We had the most amazing field trip to For the Nations to deliver SO many art supplies!! They were blessed beyond measure! We learned about what they do at For the Nations to serve children and families. They expect to have over 600 kids come to camp this summer. The art supply closet is filled!! If you would still like to donate, you may ship items from the Amazon wish list direct to the optional recipient address in Garland. Thank you Huskies for your abounding generosity! 💖

Playground Closure Tuesday, May 12th 3:15-4:00 p.m.

The KC Club will be celebrating their year of success, as they participated in a variety of leadership and volunteer roles this school year!

Due to the event, the playground will be CLOSED during this time and used only for KC Club members. Thank you so much for your cooperation.

RETURNING HUSKIES 2026-27 T-SHIRTS

As we look ahead to next year, we’d love your help getting spirit shirts ready early. Please take a moment to complete this quick form to share your child’s t-shirt size for the All School “Hyer Harbor” Spirit Shirt. We’re collecting this information now so shirts are ready at the start of the new school year, rather than waiting on Back to School Sign Up data that typically comes in later.

One form per family—please include all returning students for the 2026 - 2027 school year!

MOVING? BE SURE TO LET HYER KNOW!

If your family is moving or your children have been accepted to private school and won't be attending Hyer in the fall, please notify Kim Shelton via EMAIL as soon as possible.

*All withdrawal forms must be completed by the end of the school year.

FIRST GRADERS WILL START CHOOSING A LA CART TODAY!!!

On May 11th, first graders will transition from being served a set lunch to choosing items a la carte. This will be good practice for next year and will help lessen any anxiety about the move to second grade. Please review the menu with your child and talk with them about making healthy choices. Ice cream days for first graders will continue to be Friday only through the end of the school year. Please contact Lorena Escobedo with any questions!

LAST PNO OF THE SCHOOL YEAR THIS FRIDAY!

Join hosts Ms. Valesia and Ms. Gaby for pizza, pjs and PNO fun from 6-10 p.m., Friday, May 15th. Tickets are $50 for the first child, and $40 each for siblings. Hurry – the PNO is limited to 50 lucky Huskies and spots will go fast!

ALL LIBRARY BOOKS DUE FRIDAY!

It's that time of year again! Let's round-up all Hyer Library books! All books are due May 15th. The lost book replacement fee is $20 cash or check payable to the Hyer Library. Contact Librarian, Mrs. Strickland, with any questions!

DIRECTORY SPOT

Want to save a copy of the school directory?

If you wish to save a copy of this year’s directory data from DirectorySpot, you can download a PDF by logging into your account at www.directoryspot.net then select the “Download PDFs” option under the “Directory” tab. The 2025-2026 directory data will be available until it is replaced by the new data at the beginning of the next school year. Leaving the school or district after this year? Be sure to download your PDF, as non-district families are not able to access DirectorySpot.

**Please note: The download option is available only on the website www.directoryspot.net using any Internet browser. It is not available in the app.

Thank you to everyone who supported the HPHS Student Council by purchasing the directory this year!

A NOTE FROM CAFETERIA!

Hiii wonderful cafeteria volunteers!

Somehow we are in the final 12 days of school! Per usual with the end of year upon us, the cafeteria is getting a little wild. 🤪😵‍💫 Principal Burt sent along some reminders for us, so we can help keep things in line. Please take a moment to read!!!!

Kids shouldn't be out of their seats without a staff member's permission.

Students have been told that they can't interrupt their parents while they are working. When the parent is finished or in a moment of no service, they are welcome to visit their child at the table. Or, with staff permission, students can say hi to their parent on their volunteer day as long as they are not interrupting their service - AKA no student is allowed behind the ice cream counter or serving line!

Students are not allowed to visit a friend's parent

Thank y'all SOOO much for a great year - let’s keep it up for 12 more days!

Fourth graders must pay any negative cafeteria balances before the end of the year and their transition to MIS. To help ensure that no fourth grader has a negative balance at the end of the school year, fourth grader cafeteria balances will not be able to fall below negative $10. If any account falls below negative $10, the account in question will be turned off until payment is made. Please make sure your fourth graders have sufficient funds to pay for lunch. Any funds remaining in their account at the end of the year will follow your Husky to MIS.
