Dear Hyer Families,

The Hyer Staff and I had the best week welcoming all of our huskies and each of you to Hyer Harbor. It has been impressive to witness the positivity and enthusiasm of each child as he/she started school and adapted to new schedules and school routines with ease. I know that everyone including the staff, was tuckered out by Friday!

Beginning today, Kindergarten - 4th grade students arriving between 7:30 and 7:45, will go to the gym; students will be dismissed from the gym to go to their classrooms at 7:45. Preschool students will enter through their door on Colgate beginning at 7:45. We encourage you to let your students walk into the building and go to the gym or their classrooms independently. This often helps with separation anxiety and fosters confidence in our younger students. We ask that families help ensure our students arrive before 7:55 AM each day. This gives our huskies time to get settled in class and,sets a positive tone for the day.

Each day, dismissal runs a little more smoothly. We are grateful for your patience and assistance in following the established procedures that have been communicated and can be found on the Hyer website. The staff and I are monitoring and adjusting details to arrival and dismissal as needs arise. Our goal is to ensure each student safely connects with their parent or guardian.

Please, please, please for your safety, the safety of our students and to be a positive role model, do not cross in the middle of the street on either Caruth or Colgate. We kindly request that you use the crosswalks and cross the street with one of our incredible crossing guards.

We are all adjusting to the routines and procedures of being in school. Each parent/guardian and Hyer staff member plays an important role in educating our children, supporting their needs, and keeping students safe. Please reach out to your child’s teacher if you have questions about anything related to your child's school experience.

The Hyer staff and I are truly blessed to be part of this amazing community and are excited to work with you and your children this year!

LATE BACK TO SCHOOL SIGN UP ENDS THIS FRIDAY, AUGUST 28TH

Back-to-school sign up is now closed. If you did not complete BSSU for your student(s), you may register during Late Back-to-School Sign Up, which is available through August 28th, by completing Hyer's Late BSSU Form and submitting payment online. As a reminder, more than 70% of HPISD's property tax revenue is recaptured by the state each year, leaving our district with a $7–8 million funding gap. Our $800,000 goal sustains the critical, ongoing needs of our school, things like staffing, programs and everyday operations. Anything raised beyond it goes directly toward special initiatives such as curriculum enhancements, classroom tools and campus upgrades.

Giving levels start at $300, and every level comes with meaningful recognition and benefits, from exclusive swag bags and auction tickets to Deluxe Carnival wristbands and a Hyer Harbor yard sign.

Visitor and Birthday Policy

Hyer will have tables inside as well as outside, in Balto's Courtyard, if you would like to have lunch with your student during their lunch period. To help all students adjust to lunchtime routines and build confidence and independence, we kindly ask that parents and guardians wait to come to school for lunch visits until after September 8th.

If your child’s birthday falls before September 8th, you're welcome to join them for a special birthday lunch!

NO Friend Policy

Please be aware of the school's no friend policy at lunch. You and your child can no longer ask for a friend to join you when you visit them for lunch. This helps prevent any feelings of exclusion and allows you to enjoy meaningful one-on-one time with your child. Thank you for helping us create a welcoming, supportive environment for all our students!

While dining with your child, please remember to follow school cafeteria rules, even in the courtyard. It can be dangerous to have children running around, jumping off of benches, etc.

We celebrate every child’s birthday with special recognition on the morning announcements and in the classroom. Because of food allergies and nutritional guidelines, parents are asked not to bring birthday treats to distribute to other students in the class, either in the classroom or in the cafeteria.

Dessert

After the first few weeks of school, students will be allowed to purchase dessert.

• Ice cream will be available for purchase on FRIDAYS ONLY.
• Cookies will be available for purchase TUESDAYS and THURSDAYS for 2nd through 4th grades.

It's that time of year again where we hold our annual Bike Rodeo Art Contest!

Our fourth grade students are invited to work at home on their drawings this year, and one person will be chosen to be featured during the week of Bike Rodeo! The winning piece of fourth grade art will be featured in several different places during the week of Bike Rodeo, including a HUGE banner at the front of the school!
