December 08, 2025 / Robert S. Hyer Elementary School

Dear Hyer Families,

Highland Park ISD is excited to share that, thanks to the generosity of La Fiesta and the HP Education Foundation, we have purchased two trained therapy dogs to support the well-being of our students and staff.

Both dogs are Bernedoodles, selected for their calm temperament, strong capabilities, and hypoallergenic qualities. They have begun visiting campuses on a limited basis and will be fully deployed after the start of the new year.

The therapy dogs are handled by Chief Rowden and Officer Bridgewater (HPHS SRO), both of whom have extensive experience and training in working with dogs. The dogs will make occasional visits to Hyer and can also respond to specific requests for support.

If you prefer that your child not have contact with the therapy dogs due to allergies, fear of dogs, or other concerns, an opt-out form will be available in the front office for the legal guardian to sign.

Thank you for your partnership as we continue supporting the emotional well-being of our students.

KC CLUB'S TOY DRIVE ENDS TOMORROW!

It is the season to give thanks and joy. The 4th Grade KC Club (Kindness and Compassion Club) is ready to spread some holiday cheer to our neighbors in West Dallas! The KC Club is collecting NEW TOYS starting December 1st through the 9th to benefit Brother Bill’s Helping Hands. Brother Bill’s goal this year is to serve 2,000 children 0-12 years old with 8,000 gifts that will be distributed during its Christmas Event. Brother Bill’s Helping Hands is a non-profit organization that provides numerous resources to the West Dallas community, including a grocery store, a health clinic, job training and weekly programs for kids.

Any NEW, UNWRAPPED gifts should be under $25. The kids love toys, games, arts, crafts, accessories, puzzles, board games, and more! Donation boxes will be located in the hallways on both the Caruth and Colgate sides of Hyer. The KC Club thanks you in advance for your generous donations! Please contact the Community Service Chair, Nellie Dunn, with any questions.

THIRD GRADE PERFORMANCE TOMORROW!

Our wonderful 3rd graders will perform in the Hyer Cafetorium on tomorrow, Tuesday, December 9th. The doors to the front of the school will open at 5:00 p.m. Students should dress in picture day attire, avoiding too many layers due to the lights on stage. When they arrive, 3rd grade students will go up to the 3rd grade pod to meet their teachers and get in line order to walk into the cafetorium at 5:25PM. Families will go to the cafetorium to get a seat. The performance will start at 5:30 p.m.

At the end of the performance, Mrs. Conklin will have the students stay on stage until their parent walks up to pick them up.

HOLIDAY PARTIES COMING UP!

Winter Holiday class parties will take place on Friday, December 19th. Party attendees will be limited to party volunteers. Each family may only have one volunteer per class. There will be other opportunities to attend parties and volunteer in the classroom.

Due to the limited volunteer opportunities, each family may only volunteer in their student’s class for one party.

Because this is also an early release day at 1:00 p.m., the school will not be having lunch time visitors that day, other than volunteers for cafeteria.

Thank you for being considerate and giving everyone a chance to help out!

Times for the parties are as follows:
