March 09, 2026 / Robert S. Hyer Elementary School

Sweet Hyer Families,

It was a joy to welcome our Grandfriends and all of you into the building last week for Grandfriends Day and Open House. Both events were well attended and our students shined in their musical performances and in sharing work in their classrooms. We are genuinely grateful for the value you all place on being present at Hyer for our special events. Your presence is not only important to our children, but to all of the staff as well. Thank you! Applause to all of our teachers for their dedication and commitment to the instruction and love they provide each day to our Huskies.

As we look forward to Spring Break next week, I hope you treasure your time with our precious students, find beauty in your experiences, and make time for all the things that fuel your heart.

Gratefully,

Debbie

CAFETERIA UPDATE!

In response to the parent experience survey results across the district last year, and through the work of our SHAC, our cafeteria staff led by manager Lorena Escobar - along with Misty Wall who serves on the districts School Health Advisory Council - has done an incredible job listening to your feedback and making positive changes in the cafeteria! Months ago, menu ingredients and vendor improvements happened, and we wanted to share the news with you!

Some of the changes include:

- Cooking oil changed from Cottonseed Oil to Rice Bran Oil.

- Chicken nuggets are now gluten free and no antibiotics.

- Frozen pizza are now higher quality ingredients - with real tomato sauce and real mozzarella cheese.

- Chips with food dyes are no longer served and ice cream served only 1 day per week.

These are all great moves and we are so thankful for cafeteria staff who goes above and beyond to serve our kids nutritious meals at school!

Thank you Lorena and team!
