September 08, 2025 / Robert S. Hyer Elementary School | | |
Hello Husky Families,
Can you believe we are about to start our 4th full week of school? The staff and I continue to be impressed by the way our students have adjusted to the new year and are in full swing of all things Hyer. This week, I have some reminders to share with you.
Notification & Consent for Services
In accordance with Texas Senate Bill 12, HPISD is required to collect annual parent consent for routine school-based health and counseling services. These services, provided by nurses, athletic trainers, and counselors, have not changed—only the requirement for yearly consent is new.
To complete the form, log in to Skyward Family Access, open “25-26 HPISD Notification & Consent for Services,” and indicate your consent for each child. For details, click HERE!
Student Arrival
This week, our office staff will begin issuing tardy slips promptly at 7:55 AM each day. Students not in the classroom by 7:55 AM are counted tardy. Parents are not permitted to walk late students to class. Instructional activities begin when students arrive in the classroom each morning. Students who arrive on time begin their day more smoothly, not rushing to get organized and settled, or trying to catch up with classmates who have already started their work. Please help us ensure that your child(ren) arrives safely and on time each day.
Lunch Visitors
We have tables set aside in the cafeteria and outside in Balto’s Courtyard for families to eat together – parents may NOT join the classroom table.
Starting the year strong with well established routines and procedures is so important for student success, and also for running any organization with LOTS of people! We so appreciate your support of the systems at Hyer.
Respectfully,
Debbie

| | International Dot Day is this Friday September 12th! | | |
What is Dot Day?
International Dot Day, based on the book The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds, is coming up on Friday, September 12th. The Dot is the story of a caring teacher who challenges a student to trust in her own abilities by being brave enough to “make her mark”. What begins with a small dot on a piece of paper becomes a breakthrough in confidence and courage and ignites a journey of creativity!
Each year on International Dot Day, the inspiration continues. We are inviting all of our Hyer Huskies to celebrate Dot Day by wearing dots, polka dotted shirts, dots on headbands, dots on socks, a homemade shirt, whatever you can find with dots! Our only request is that students do NOT put dots on their faces.
Let’s celebrate our creativity on Friday September 12!

| | HYER BUILDS CHARACTER WITH PURPOSEFULL PEOPLE CURRICULUM | | |
We are excited to continue encouraging and celebrating our students as they build character throughout their elementary years. Research tells us that it is not grades or IQ scores that make us most successful, but instead the ability to “fail forward” - to develop resilience and persevere even when things get tough.
Each elementary campus will continue using the PurposeFULL people curriculum to focus on 9 different character traits throughout the year with lessons and activities tailored to individual grade levels. In the classroom, our teachers will be integrating conversations and activities to emphasize the importance of skills like Responsibility, Gratitude, Empathy, Perseverance, Honesty, Cooperation, Courage, and Creativity. Classes will also spend time with Ms. Thompson once a month to focus more in depth on these character traits. Our goal is to teach these young people to connect with one another more thoughtfully and skillfully and to work together to solve problems.
In the month of SEPTEMBER, we are focusing on RESPECT! Please contact Linde Thompson, Hyer Counselor, with any questions about the program.

We had the OG Husky Heroes speaking at our most recent Coffee Talk... Officer Fortner, Ms. Thompson, Principal Burt and Dr. Rockwood - such a stacked line-up! Thank you for taking the time to answer all our questions - from security protocol, counseling services, district updates & off-the-charts school rankings.
- Kathryn Sontag - bringing people together to have thoughtful discussion and talks is your gift to us all! Thank you for leading the Speaker Series - y'all are going to flip over what she's got up her sleeve for this year! Want to master parenting, learn about our kids and technology, youth sports, and childhood development?! Look no further!
- Kelly Morgan - literally, how do you do it all?! You're on every Hyer text thread I know of keeping us all up to speed, balls rolling, and ideas coming to life... Special Events is Special Kelly's specialty.
- Bike Rodeo is going to be bussin' this year thanks to Julie Mearns! She is truly pouring her heart into this event to make it magical for our kids.. Julie, you're the best and you "left no crumbs" (take note.. this is high praise from our kids).
- Lindsey Bauer, our family underwriting unicorn - you have done an amazing job appreciating our family donors. You recognize the value of every donation and the heart behind generosity. Thank you for leading the charge on Family Underwriting!
- Catherine Lowe - do you wake up and wonder, which hat should I put on today?! Art Chair... Social Media Chair... Room Mom... You are what I call a "helium hand" - you can't help yourself when it comes to volunteering, your hand just rises up!
- Nellie Dunn, you and Ms. Thompson hosted the first KC Club meeting! It was such a great turnout! One of my favorite parts of the 4th grade year - learning the blessing of giving back and serving others. We're thankful for you, Nellie!

Your copy should address 3 key questions: Who am I writing for (audience)? Why should they care (benefit)? What do I want them to do (call-to-action)?
Create a great offer by adding words like "free," "personalized," "complimentary," or "customized." A sense of urgency often helps readers take action, so consider inserting phrases like "for a limited time only" or "only 7 remaining!"
