April 27, 2026 / Robert S. Hyer Elementary School

Dear Hyer Families,

On Wednesday, our 3rd and 4th graders will take their final state assessment, the STAAR Math test. In preparing our students to come to school, giving their best each day, and especially on testing days, a nutritious breakfast plays a vital role in supporting the physical, cognitive, and emotional aspects of a child's development, making it a crucial meal for elementary-age kids. It is important for all children to start the day with healthy foods, low in sugar.

Longer days/more daylight make it challenging to stay consistent with bedtime routines. A good night's sleep, 8-10 hours for elementary aged students, is critical in supporting emotional regulation and academic focus. As always, arriving to school prior to 7:55 AM, is helpful in promoting a calm, less rushed start to the day, for all students.

Especially as the weather gets warmer outside, please make sure your student has a water bottle. Again, on Wednesday before testing, the playground will be open for our 3rd & 4th graders from 7:30-7:55 AM. A staff member will open the gates when the playground opens. One final reminder, our campus is closed to lunch visitors on STAAR testing days.

The end of the school year is quickly approaching and we want to work with our sweet families to ensure students end the year on a high note. We are grateful for all the ways you assist our students in doing their best every day.

Have an amazing week!

Debbie

BOOK IT TO SUMMER

A Book Fair Curated by Moms, for Kids

This may be one of the most exciting events of the year!! A PTA-run, thoughtfully curated Book Fair!

Every book has been carefully selected - and we are GIDDY to get these books in the hands of your kids before summer!

Allow me to paint a picture for you - you're on a family vacation, perhaps the beach. You are expecting meltdowns to start because everyone is hot & sandy... and yet, to your dismay, everyone has brought new books to read & they are captivated by them. You have an hour to shut your eyes, listen to the ocean roar & pages flip. No one is asking you for a snack... your only worry is if the tide is going to hit your chair.

Ahem... back to reality. SO - Buy them a gift card and they can shop on their own... but to be honest, you'll want to come too! We may also have some great beach reads for you too, parents!

Book fair will be open from 7:15-7:50 a.m. for students to shop WITH their parents. Classes will get to preview and shop the fair during the day, and it will be open to the public from 3:15-4:30 p.m. We need volunteers for before and after school shopping! See the sign-up link below!

Buy Hyer Book Fair gift cards for your kids today! Click the link below but be sure to purchase before May 1st at 5:00 p.m.!

Show your teacher some love during Teacher Appreciation Week! Buy them a gift card so they can shop the fair for books for their classroom!

All gift cards will be delivered to classrooms on May 4th!

We need volunteers to make this happen!

We need volunteers for before and after school shopping!

Calling all Huskies - get ready for the most fun day of the year! Field Day is coming up on Friday, May 15th, and we can’t wait!!!

We’ll have all your favorite games, plus a big surprise to end the day and celebrate the end of our Boot Scootin’ year.

For the moms asking, brace yourselves — things will look a little different: there will be no grade-level colors! Instead, have your child wear their favorite Hyer t-shirt and come ready for fun. Huskies will receive everything they need to participate when they arrive at school that day!

Stay tuned for volunteer opportunities - we’ll need lots of moms and dads to help make this day a great success!
