December 01, 2025 / Robert S. Hyer Elementary School

Dear Parents,

I hope your Thanksgiving Break was full of many blessings and treasured time with family and friends. I am excited to be back with staff and students today as we finish up the last few weeks of the first semester.

As a district, we are celebrating Kindness Week where "Scots Shine Together". Our focus will be for students to see and experience the powerful impact of kind words, actions and gestures. A helping hand, kind deed, or words of support can make a difference in someone's day, foster positive connections, and even create a ripple effect in a community. Acts of kindness, whether big or small, can change lives, often in ways we don't see. Please join us in modeling and encouraging the many ways "Scots Shine Together" in our incredible community and beyond.

Gratefully,

Debbie

Starting today, December 1st through 5th our school will celebrate Hyer Huskies showing kindness to everyone around them. Our Huskies know the importance of including everyone and not leaving anyone out. We know kindness makes a difference in our school and to those in our community. Let's spread kindness to all!

KC CLUB'S TOY DRIVE STARTS TODAY!

It is the season to give thanks and joy. The 4th Grade KC Club (Kindness and Compassion Club) is ready to spread some holiday cheer to our neighbors in West Dallas! The KC Club is collecting NEW TOYS starting December 1st through the 9th to benefit Brother Bill’s Helping Hands. Brother Bill’s goal this year is to serve 2,000 children 0-12 years old with 8,000 gifts that will be distributed during its Christmas Event. Brother Bill’s Helping Hands is a non-profit organization that provides numerous resources to the West Dallas community, including a grocery store, a health clinic, job training and weekly programs for kids.

Any NEW, UNWRAPPED gifts should be under $25. The kids love toys, games, arts, crafts, accessories, puzzles, board games, and more! Donation boxes will be located in the hallways on both the Caruth and Colgate sides of Hyer. The KC Club thanks you in advance for your generous donations! Please contact the Community Service Chair, Nellie Dunn, with any questions.

THIRD GRADE PERFORMANCE NEXT WEEK

Our wonderful 3rd graders will perform in the Hyer Cafetorium on Tuesday, December 9th. The doors to the front of the school will open at 5:00 p.m. Students should dress in picture day attire, avoiding too many layers due to the lights on stage. When they arrive, 3rd grade students will go up to the 3rd grade pod to meet their teachers and get in line order to walk into the cafetorium at 5:25PM. Families will go to the cafetorium to get a seat. The performance will start at 5:30 p.m.

At the end of the performance, Mrs. Conklin will have the students stay on stage until their parent walks up to pick them up.
