Dear Hyer Families,
Three cheers for a weeklong celebration for our Hyer Longhorn Fans who won the College Throwdown competition - Hook 'Em Horns! Thank you to each of you who participated in the fun! I am certain that the positive energy from this challenge prompted our victory over the Sooners on Saturday.
Bike Safety Week was amazing! The BMX bike show and our beloved tradition Bike Rodeo were fantastic opportunities for our kids to learn about bike safety and celebrate too! Kudos to the best PTA, Dads Club and countless volunteers who helped make this event an incredible success. It was wonderful to see many families cheering on our bikers as they navigated the course. Our students and teachers had a blast!
Electronic report cards will be available in Skyward this Friday, October 17. Included below is some information about the standards-based reporting scale as it has changed from previous years.
4: The student consistently demonstrates understanding and application of the standard. Work is accurate, complete, and independent. (This student knows this content so well that they could TEACH it.)
3: The student demonstrates understanding and application of the standard with minimal errors. Work is generally accurate and complete, showing readiness to move forward. (This student in on grade level with this content.)
2: The student demonstrates partial understanding of the standard but may lack consistency or accuracy. Errors or misconceptions are present, and support is sometimes needed to complete tasks. (Some of the content may also still be in the process of being taught/learned.)
1: The student demonstrates limited understanding of the standard. Work is often incomplete, inaccurate, or requires significant support. (The student is not yet meeting grade-level expectations.)
Please note that grading may not be consistently equivalent throughout the entire year. For example, in the area of Phonics, a student may score a 3 for the beginning quarter, with simple content such as reading CVC words. However, that same student may be struggling during the second quarter, due to the Phonics content becoming more challenging, such as using diagraphs. Due to the increased level of difficulty, this student might score a 2 in the area of Phonics the second quarter. It depends upon the individual student.
This is one reason why Parent Teacher Conferences are so important, so that these nuances can be explained for individual students. Please feel free to contact your child's classroom teacher if you have questions about grades and report cards.
We are so proud of our Huskies and their teachers. YEE HAW!
Gratefully,
Debbie
