April 13, 2026 / Robert S. Hyer Elementary School

Dear Hyer Families,

Happy Volunteer Appreciation Week! On behalf of the Hyer staff, I wanted to take a moment to express our deepest gratitude for your invaluable contributions as parent volunteers and collaborators in the education of our Hyer Huskies. Your dedication and enthusiasm make a significant impact on our school community, and we are incredibly grateful for all that you do!

Earlier this semester, families were encouraged to complete a school experience survey. I want to reiterate how valuable it is to partner with you in your child’s educational experience. While our daily focus is on our Huskies, we are committed not only to growing our students but also to growing as a school.Thank you to each of our families who completed the School Experience Survey. As you are likely aware, the school experience survey results are posted in their entirety on the HPISD webpage using this Link.

The Hyer staff and our Campus Leadership Committee have reviewed the data from students, staff, and parents. We discussed trends, celebrations, and opportunities for the 2026-27 school year.

We received favorable parent feedback in the areas of a safe school environment, a clean and well-maintained school, teachers who treat students with respect, and in being able to easily connect with staff for information or quesitons about students. Our areas of opportunity include: providing more challenging work for students, providing students with support for their individual needs, and providing additional food choices in the cafeteria. Our campus leadership teams have started brainstorming action steps that we can take to improve in these areas. We will continue to work with PTA and Hyer cafeteria staff as well as district staff, to make some adjustments to food offerings in the cafeteria.

We are grateful for your feedback and will work diligently over the next several months to address the opportunities that have been presented.

Respectfully,

Debbie

BOOK IT TO SUMMER

A Book Fair Curated by Moms, for Kids

This spring, Hyer is introducing a book fair thoughtfully curated by moms, for kids, with one clear goal: to nurture lifelong readers. As our students head into summer break, we want to place high-quality books in their hands—stories that spark excitement now and keep children choosing to read all summer long.

When children are surrounded by books they genuinely love, reading becomes more than a school skill; it becomes a source of joy, curiosity, and connection. By selecting books that are engaging, meaningful, and just right for growing readers, we hope to send children into summer with stories they’ll return to again and again—building habits and memories that last far beyond the summer season.

How We Choose Our Books

We selected each book using criteria that balance strong literacy growth with the joy of reading. Every title at the fair was chosen because it meets the following criteria:

  • Engaging and Interesting: Books that spark curiosity, imagination, and excitement—because kids read more when they’re interested.
  • Age-Appropriate: Stories that match children’s developmental stages while still challenging their thinking.
  • Rich Language and Structure: Books with strong vocabulary and varied sentence structures that build comprehension, even when read aloud.
  • Thoughtful, Timeless Themes: Stories that explore kindness, courage, friendship, and curiosity—ideas that matter at any age.
  • Readable and Accessible: Texts that balance challenge with clarity so children can read with confidence and success.

Stay tuned for more information! We will need volunteers and help spreading the word! It's going to be memorable and exciting!!
