February 09, 2026 / Robert S. Hyer Elementary School

Dear Hyer Families,

I hope this newsletter finds you well and that you have stepped into February with an open heart as we prepare to honor Valentines Day later this week. Our staff and students are looking forward to celebrating Valentine's Day together on Friday during their class parties.

On Friday, February 13th, we invite all students to wear shades of red, pink, or white to school as we celebrate Valentine's Day. Our classrooms will be abuzz with love and kindness as students exchange cards, enjoy themed activities, and enjoy their parties.

This month, we encourage our students to go beyond traditional valentines and focus on spreading kindness. Have conversations with your kids that emphasize the importance of empathy, friendship, understanding, and this month’s character trait, honesty. Let's make this Valentine's Day a celebration of good character, compassion, and kindness.

As always, the staff and I appreciate your ongoing support and involvement in making Hyer a loving and nurturing environment for our students.

Gratefully,

Debbie

Hyer will open its doors at 9:00 a.m., February 17th to parents of incoming kindergarten students AND any parent NEW to Hyer (with Pre-K through 4th students) for our annual New Family Round-Up information meeting. DADS CLUB

DADDY DAUGHTER DANCE

Hyer Dads - We are excited about the upcoming Hyer Daddy Daughter Dance on Wednesday, February 25th from 6-8:00 p.m. at the Dallas Country Club.

If you have not already registered, please do so. See the Back-to-School-Signup DDD Registration list below/attached. If you are not on this list and have not registered in recent weeks, you have NOT registered. Please sign-up.

We are expecting at least 40-50 additional registrations between now and the event itself. If you've attended in the past, you recognize this is a nice event for our girls and they love it. The cost to host at the Dallas Country Club with a DJ and photo booths along with the food and an open (note: cash) bar is a meaningful cost. The Registration fees (hopefully) pay for the event itself.

For this year's event, we will have surprise guests with the appearance of several of the Highland Belles. Their director, Shannon, has agreed to send her team which will thrill our girls.

Over the coming weeks, we will update the registration site to donate directly to the Belles and another option to donate directly to the Dads Club, which will ultimately go to our beloved teachers. The Dads Club donations will be a voluntary option as opposed to a much larger sponsor solicitation like we've had in the past.

Much appreciated. See you on February 25th!

Chris Sears and Clint Coe, Hyer Dads Club Event Chairs

PURPOSEFUL PEOPLE

During the month of February, the Hyer staff is on the lookout for Hyer Huskies who demonstrate the character trait of HONESTY. HONESTY is defined as being truthful in what you say and do. This is the trait our whole school is focused on as part of our PurposeFULL People curriculum. Students will be recognized with a HUSKY HERO ticket by different staff members throughout the building. At the end of the month, an individual student from each class will be chosen as the HUSKY HERO for February.

HP MEN'S SOCCER COMMUNITY NIGHT

Highland Park Mens Soccer vs. Reedy

Wear an HPSA or HP Jersey and get in free!

Highland Park Soccer Association scrimmage during half time.

Community Players (boys and girls) are welcome to join (friends, classmates, YMCA players)

We’re excited to be part of Community Night with the Highland Park High School Men’s Varsity Soccer Team on Friday, February 13.

At halftime of the varsity match, HPSA will be on the field running open scrimmages led by our coaching staff. This is meant to be a fun, inclusive opportunity for kids in our community to play, support local soccer, and enjoy the game-night atmosphere. All local soccer players are invited, and players wearing a jersey will receive free admission.

What to know:

  • All HPSA coaches (boys and girls) will be on the field
  • Players will participate in co-ed, small-sided scrimmages
  • Community players (boys and girls) are welcome to join (friends, classmates, YMCA players)
  • This is not a tryout or evaluation, just play
  • Players may wear any soccer jersey if they have one

We know this is a Friday night before a three-day weekend, so some families may be traveling. If you’re in town, we’d love to see you. No pressure at all if you’re out of town.
