February 23, 2026 / Robert S. Hyer Elementary School

Dear Hyer Families,

Our Read on Hyer celebration last week was an energy-packed event! It was a joy to celebrate our students for their impressive reading minutes, as well as the funds raised to support our PTA and, ultimately, our beloved school. I’m incredibly proud of how dedicated each student was to reaching their individual reading goals. Together, our Huskies logged 166,780 minutes!

We couldn't have achieved this without your unwavering support and encouragement, as well as the hard work of our amazing PTA and the dedication of our Read on Hyer chairs Jen Lavelle and Katrina Bolin and their incredible team. Keep reading, Huskies!

If you know of any new to Hyer students and/or incoming Kindergarten students, please remind their families to register for next school year, now. Early registration helps us determine staffing needs for the next school year. Registration information can be found on both the Hyer and HPISD websites.

Proudly,

Debbie

REGIONAL DESTINATION IMAGINATION TOURNAMENT!

On February 21, two teams represented Hyer in the Regional Destination Imagination Tournament!

Destination Imagination (DI) is a program allowing teams to work together to solve open-ended STEAM challenges, using creativity, problem-solving skills, teamwork and innovation.

The Stuntsmen team proudly represented Hyer Elementary in the Helping Hands/Early Learning Challenge. The team included second graders Sammy Morrison, William Bagby, Charlie Sontag, Ace Narayanan, Warner Clark, and Simon Robbins (and Team Manager Sharon Clark).

The #Huskies team proudly represented Hyer Elementary in the Becoming Super/Fine Arts Challenge. The team included third graders Evelyn Howe, Conrad Clark, Jack Sontag, Avery Layman, John Wall, and Jack Lavelle (and Team Manager Misty Wall). Their team placed FIRST in their category, earning a spot at the State competition! Go #Huskies!

Both teams were overjoyed to have Principal Burt come and cheer them on!

HYER'S HOTTEST DANCE PARTY WAS POWERED BY GLOW BROS & MOM PROS!!

Fuel was given by Cane's Chicken and Dippin' Dots Ice Cream Truck... so that swag could be earned completing obstacle course challenges with their moms... and then danced the night away on an electric dance floor jamming to the beat of your own headphones. Moms ruled the night, raking in cool points with their agility on the field and dance moves on the floor. Thank you all for coming!

- Jen Lavelle and Katrina Bolin, WOW y'all! Read on Hyer was the most fun reading & fundraising campaign thanks for you two! Thank you so much for the countless hours, meetings, logistics and effort you poured into this to make reading magical for our huskies.

- To our HPA gals led by Holley Shelley, thank you for making all new Hyer families feel so welcome at our Kindergarten Round Up last week! Kim Holly, Melissa Ray, Courtney Wood, Shannon Holter - you all were friendly faces for our new families! Thank you to Lindsey Strawn and Leigh Young for being there to hype up cafeteria duty!

- To Patty Georgeadis and Katey Plummer, our Family Events Chairs, and Kelly Morgan, our Special Events Chair, you all pulled off the most EPIC dance party for Mom Pros & Glow Bros! Swag was had, dance moves were dropped, boys were embarrassed by us (and secretly delighted by our sick dance skills), and memories were cemented forever. Thank you so much!!
