January 12, 2026 / Robert S. Hyer Elementary School

Dear Husky Families,

The staff and I were thrilled to welcome our students back to school last week and start the new year recognizing our Husky Heroes for the December character trait of empathy. We are incredibly proud of our students for demonstrating strong character each day.

With the arrival of some long-awaited cooler winter weather this week, remember to label jackets, sweaters and sweatshirts so that if they end up in the lost and found, we can return them to your child. Don't forget to label water bottles and lunch boxes as well.

The new year is a good time to review our arrival and dismissal procedures on the Hyer website, under "PTA", click here. Please, please, please for your safety, the safety of our students and to be a positive role model, do not cross in the middle of the street on either Caruth or Colgate. when picking up or dropping off your child(ren). We kindly request that you use the crosswalks and cross the street with one of our incredible crossing guards. Additionally, Kindergarten through Fourth grade parents going through the carpool line should not park in the queue line during drop off and pick up. Please allow your child to exit your car independently with the help of our Dads Club.

Happy New Year to all of you! Let's make 2026 our best year yet.

Fondly,

Debbie

A NOTE FROM NURSE RATHER

Hello Husky parents,

Winter has brought all the fun viruses! This is the perfect opportunity for some reminders from the Hyer clinic!

  • Please consider keeping your child at home if they wake up and are not feeling well. You know your child best, but a child that is not well cannot learn at an optimal level.
  • Remember that students who have fever must be home for 24 hours once the fever resolves (with no fever reducing medication). We also ask that you keep your child at home for 24 hours after their last bout of vomiting or diarrhea.
  • Don’t forget to let your teacher, the attendance e-mail, and the nurse know when your child is home sick. It is helpful for me if you can let me know if they have a specific diagnosis or symptoms so that I can track trends.
  • Please make sure that we have your accurate contact information in Skyward as well as a reliable emergency contact person.
  • I do not have stock medications that I can administer (except for emergency Epinephrine). I am always happy to keep a bottle of Tylenol, Motrin, or other OTC medication if you will bring it to the clinic and fill out the appropriate paperwork.

I hope that these reminders are helpful. Please reach out if I can be of any assistance.

Best,

Kelley Rather, RN
