Dear ILS Members and Friends,
One of the great strengths of our Section is the many ways in which our members connect with one another. An important way we connect is through our CLE programming.
Section members frequently prepare, present, and attend our outstanding CLE and Lunch & Learn programs. These programs give us an opportunity not only to learn about new and developing areas of international law, but also to hear directly from colleagues who are doing interesting and important work in the field. They allow our members to share their expertise, highlight emerging issues, and create conversations that continue well beyond the program itself.
We have some excellent CLE programs coming up. Next week, on July 15 at noon, Speakers Larry Rifkin, Juan Carlos Freire, and Elaine Weiss will present a webinar on “Extreme Vetting – The New Normal at USCIS and Consulates: A Guide in Preparing Clients and Cases.” Registration is still open at https://internationallawsection.org/events/. Then, on August 13 at noon, Neha Dagley will present “International Space Law: A Primer” to provide us with a practical introduction to the legal framework governing activities in outer space.
I also want to encourage members to think about presenting CLE programs of their own. If you have an idea for a program, the Board and CLE Committee want to hear your proposals. Our members have a remarkable range of experience, and CLEs are one of the best ways for us to share that knowledge with each other.
Whether you are presenting, organizing, moderating, or attending, CLE programming is another meaningful way to connect to and participate in the life of the Section. I hope you will join us for upcoming programs and consider contributing one of your own!

University of Miami Law First U.S. Finalist in Inter-American Human Rights Moot in 28 Years! | |
University of Miami School of Law students Camilo Daza and Amanda Sarmientos recently became the first team from a U.S. law school since 1998 to make it to the final round of the Inter-American Human Rights Moot Court Competition! The competition included teams from 21 countries and is one of the oldest and largest human rights moots in the world. Congratulations to Camilo, Amanda, and the International Moot Court Team!

On June 22, 2026, Valeria Angelucci was a speaker at Road to Florida, a business forum held in Milan, Italy and organized in collaboration with the U.S. Consulate in Milan and SelectFlorida. The program brought together government, legal, tax, investment, and business-development professionals to discuss opportunities for European companies and investors seeking to establish or expand operations in the United States, particularly in Florida.
As part of the program, Valeria presented on the legal implications for foreign investors entering the U.S. market, including corporate entity selection, business structuring considerations, and strategies for building a compliant and effective U.S. presence. The event also featured discussions on economic development initiatives, tax planning, market-entry strategies, and wealth management, followed by a networking reception for attendees and speakers.
