The International Law Section Gazette | | |
Dear colleagues and friends,
Last week’s Membership Drive Cocktail at Caffe Abracci was a real success. It was great to see so many familiar faces, and even better to welcome so many new ones. A big thank you to Hogan Lovells for sponsoring the event and to Caffe Abracci for being such a wonderful host. The energy in the room was a great reminder of how much this Section continues to grow—and how strong our community is when we come together.
We also had a fantastic Lunch & Learn featuring Emilio García Silvero, Chief Legal and Compliance Officer at FIFA. Thank you to Sequor Law for hosting us so generously—and for making sure we got our afternoon cafecito. It was a real privilege to hear Emilio’s candid reflections on the path that allowed him to combine his two passions, law and soccer, as well as his insights on the lessons learned from FIFA-gate and the challenges of managing a global organization based in Zurich. It was a thoughtful, engaging discussion and a great example of the kind of programming that makes this Section so special.
As we start looking ahead to next year, we are also calling for nominations for leadership positions, including Vice-Treasurer. If you have been thinking about getting more involved, this is a great time to do it. Serving in a leadership role is a meaningful way to contribute to the Section, help shape its future, and build lasting relationships with colleagues across Florida and beyond. If you are interested, please email me a statement of interest by May 8.
Please also save the date for our ILS Annual Meeting on June 19 in Orlando, with the location to be announced soon. And before that, we will gather for the Chair’s Reception on June 18 at 7:00 p.m. at Ice Bar in Orlando (8967 International Drive, Orlando, FL). I hope you will join us for both as we celebrate a terrific year and look ahead to all that is to come.
Un abrazo,
Cristina Vicens Beard
