"There's only one way to succeed in anything, and that is to give it everything."
-Coach Vince Lombardi
Dear ILS Members,
ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL (and Baseball)?! The National Football League (NFL) preseason starts next month and the excitement among players, coaches, owners, fans and sportscasters is already palpable. While the NFL gears up for the real gridiron, the fantasy football owners are also focused on preparing for their fantasy league drafts. Many of them are pouring over scouting reports and organizing their player rankings to draft the best players for their team with the hope of being crowned their league’s champion.
Last year, the ILS hosted its inaugural Fantasy Football season with 16 teams under the leadership of the Commissioner Jeff Hagen. My team, Richard’s Big Dogs, made the playoffs after a strong late season run. But the 2022 ILS Fantasy Football Champion was Daniel Coyle’s What Can Brown Do 4 U?, followed by Cristina Vicens’ DakStreet Boys who came in second place. We all had a great time and enjoyed the friendly competition. If you’re interested in joining the 2023 ILS Fantasy Football League, please see the announcement below and contact Commissioner Hagen. The 2023 Fantasy Draft will be on August 20. We look forward to competing with you!
Speaking of competition, on August 3, the ILS is co-hosting the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) 8th Annual Ethics and Baseball program at LoanDepot Park, which will include a breakfast and presentation by yours truly at 830 am followed by a Miami Marlins game against the Philadelphia Phillies. ILS members will enjoy discounted tickets to the program and ballgame for $35. We are also working on securing CLE ethics credits for this program. We hope to see you at the ball game!
On July 20, we are co-hosting a Networker with the Miami Finance Forum (MFF) and the Florida Institute of Certified Public Accountants (FICPA) at Quinto in Brickell. More details are available in the flyer below.
As you can see, our Section is working hard to collaborate with other organizations to provide our members with opportunities to engage with interesting, valuable and enjoyable events and professionals. So if you’re involved with other organizations and have ideas for the ILS to collaborate with them on programs or events, please let me or other Board members know, so we can explore those opportunities with you.
Finally, I’m pleased to announce that planning for iLaw2024 is already underway! Our iLaw Co-Chairs, Davide Macelloni and Adrian Nunez, are focused on making next year’s flagship conference a tremendous success! But they can’t do it alone, and need the help of ILS members who are willing to serve on the Steering Committee and submit proposals for panels. Please see the iLaw2024 invitation below and consider getting involved. This is a fantastic opportunity to enhance your leadership skills, showcase your expertise and network with fellow members of the Section and several Foreign Bars. I’m confident that with your help, our Section’s Super Bowl (iLaw2024) will be a huge success!
