The iLaw Conference Committee and the Foreign Legal Consultant Committee are looking for volunteers. The iLaw Conference Committee is responsible for coordinating all aspects of our Section’s flagship event – iLaw: ILS Global Forum on International Law. The Foreign Legal Consultant Committee is responsible for vetting and recommending foreign attorneys who seek Foreign Legal Consultant certification. These standing committees handle some of our Section’s most important work; yet they cannot do it alone. If you have never served on an ILS committee, now is the time to get involved! Below please find additional details regarding these committees as well as contact information for each Committee Chair. Reach out to them today and remember, the success of our organization, our success, depends on each of us.

iLaw 2023 Committee: Call for Committee Members

The iLaw 2023 Committee is calling on ILS members to volunteer for the Committee.
If you would like to become a member of the ILS Steering Committee for the 2023 iLaw: ILS Global Forum on International law, please e-mail the iLaw Co-Chairs by August 19, 2022: Kristin Drecktrah-Paz (kpaz@pbylaw.com); Davide Macelloni (dmacelloni@drbdc-law.com); or Adrian Nunez (nuneza@gtlaw.com).
If you have ideas for one or more panels within the international litigation, arbitration, or business transactions tracks at the 2023 iLaw, please submit them before September 30, 2022 to the Co-Chairs.

Foreign Legal Consultant Committee: Call for Committee Members
The Foreign Legal Consultant Committee is calling on ILS members to volunteer for the Committee, which vets applications to the Florida Bar for the Foreign Legal Consultant certification. Those already certified as Foreign Legal Consultants would be very much welcome on the committee, but certification is not required to serve on the committee.
The Foreign Legal Consultant certification permits a person who is admitted to practice in a foreign country as an attorney, counselor at law, or the equivalent to act as a foreign legal consultant in the state of Florida. The Rules authorizes an attorney licensed to practice law in 1 or more foreign countries to be certified by the Supreme Court of Florida, without examination, to render services in this state as a legal consultant regarding the laws of the country in which the attorney is admitted to practice.

ILS 2022 Fantasy Football Tournament

This year, the ILS has set-up its very own fantasy football league and we want each of YOU to become Team Owners. It’s time to network and start a little friendly competition among the membership. There is no fee/cost to register or participate and signing-up is easy! All you have to do is contact Commissioner (and Co-Editor-in-Chief of the ILQ) Jeff Hagen, at jhagen@harpermeyer.com. Commissioner Hagen will send you the link to sign-up and answer any questions you may have about the league.
The ILS league is being run through Yahoo Sports and our fantasy draft has been scheduled for Sunday, August 21, 2022, at 7:00 p.m. The winning team will have bragging rights for an entire year and will be given the ILS fantasy football trophy to proudly display in their office until next season. So go…right now, email the Commish to sign up, mark your calendars for draft day, and start thinking of a really cool team name. It’s going to be a lot of fun!

WHO MAY APPLY?
Minimum standards for international law certification, provided in Rule 6-21.3, include:
· Practice of law for at least five years, in either the United States or abroad, or four years with an LL.M. in international law or a related field;
· Substantial involvement in the specialty of international law — 50% or more — during each of the three years immediately preceding application;
· 60 hours of approved international law certification continuing legal education in the three years immediately preceding application;
· Peer review; and,
· A written examination.
