ILS Chair's News & Notes

Dear ILS Members,


We are just three weeks away from finishing the 2022 – 2023 ILS term. If you have not yet registered for our annual meeting and related events, please click on the link below and register today. Registration will close on June 12, 2023, and space is limited for some events. Also, please remember that committee reports must be emailed to Liz Hockensmith at ehockensmith@floridabar.org on or before next Friday, June 9, 2023.


In continuing with ILS tradition, the Chair’s Reception will be held on Thursday, June 22, 2023. On Friday June 23, 2023, we will start our day with committee meetings, transition to our annual Executive Council meeting, and end with a celebratory lunch. If you are a current Committee Chair, will be serving as a Committee Chair, or are interested in joining a committee next term, please make plans to attend the open committee meeting session which will be held from 9:00 am to 10:00 am. During the open committee meeting session, Committee Chairs and members should review this year’s goals and accomplishments and begin outlining plans for next term.

ILS Members Jocelyne A. Macelloni and Matthew Akiba were recently published in the International Factoring Association's Commercial Factor Magazine for their article titled Lost in Translation: The Importance of Accurate Spelling in UCC Filings.


In the article, Jocelyne and Matthew analyze recent developments to Florida case law that may impact the priority and enforcement of UCC Article 9 security interests and the pitfalls filers may face in identifying the name of the debtor.
