New online training, developed in partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, brings valuable training and resources to the hundreds of WAP-funded community organizations providing weatherization services in low-income communities. This IREC-designed training will help WAP professionals run more efficient and effective weatherization operations, enhancing their important work to save energy and improve quality of life for vulnerable communities. More

Recently, Arizona adopted a new rule that will accelerate interconnecting new, distributed battery storage devices for customers interested in connecting to the grid. It ensures that these devices will support grid safety and reliability, and allow energy to be stored when the sun is shining, for use during evening hours when air conditioning is still needed but the sun is not out. More
Say hello to Gwen Brown, IREC's new Communications Director. Prior to joining IREC, Gwen was Senior Content Marketer at Aurora Solar, a software firm working to reduce the cost of residential and commercial solar through remote site analysis and PV design. In this role, she led the creation of educational content for solar professionals—including blog articles and webinars—to increase awareness of the software and grow the company’s customer base. Earlier in her career, Gwen was a Senior Research Associate at the Environmental Law Institute and a Fellow with the Clean Energy Leadership Institute. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Gettysburg College and currently resides in the San Francisco Bay Area. More
The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), collaborating with key code officials, building officials and industry members, is standardizing the U.S. solar permitting process targeted to authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs).

The Solar Automated Permit Processing (SolarAPP) platform will provide automated code-compliance review and instant approval of certain qualifying residential systems—representing a new, standard permitting approach. Workmanship is verified at inspection. 

On April 14th , 11 am MT/1 pm ET, NREL will host a Solar APP webinar where attendees will:
  • See an early prototype of the SolarAPP platform
  • Review draft permitting requirements
  • Learn how stakeholders can help test and market the SolarAPP
