Remembering Prevention Advocate, Peg Perillie
|
|
Recently, Trumbull honored the passing of Peg Perillie, one of our staunchest and most passionate prevention advocates. An original board member of RYASAP, Peg was also the long-standing chair of Trumbull CARES, our original local prevention coalition. For many years, she volunteered her time to advocate for our kids on the topics of substance abuse and dating violence prevention. Trumbull continues to benefit from Peg’s commitment and community relationships, as she had the vision to persuade the Trumbull Public Schools to apply for a SPF/SIG grant in 2006, which created TPAUD. Peg was a genius at recruiting others to join her mission, and her persistence was legendary. Peg remained an active member of TPAUD until she retired, receiving a proclamation from the CT Legislature and December 20, 2017 was declared Peg Perillie Day in Trumbull. Peg was a remarkable woman, who gave freely of her time and talents, and she will be missed.

Protecting Youth Mental Health:
Advisory from the Surgeon General
This Advisory offers recommendations for supporting the mental health of children, adolescents, and young adults. While many of these recommendations apply to individuals, the reality is that people have widely varying degrees of control over their circumstances. As a result, not all recommendations will be feasible for everyone.
That’s why systemic change is essential. The Advisory includes essential recommendations for the institutions that surround young people and shape their day-to-day lives—schools, community organizations, health care systems, technology companies, media, funders and foundations, employers, and government. They all have an important role to play in supporting the mental health of children and youth. Download the advisory.
