Read the touching story below of how this borehole is changing lives.

A Letter from the FH Board Chairman

In the summer of 2018 I took a trip with Family Humanitarian to Uganda and Kenya. At that point in my life I was looking for an organization to get involved with where I could contribute both financially and with my time to help individuals become more self-reliant. I was immediately impressed by the in-country directors who understood the importance of accountability and of programs that must be self-sustaining. They took the time to work with local community leaders to pre-qualify and teach their responsibilities in receiving a borehole (water well) and in working with education leaders for assisting in building additional classrooms for successful schools.

Since joining Family Humanitarian in a volunteer capacity, I not only committed to contribute toward water and school projects, but I also signed as a sponsor to cover administrative costs so others who contribute can give knowing that one hundred percent of their contributions will go to the actual projects they intended to help pay for. I also committed to make two trips annually to make sure the work we are doing continues to match our mission.

While on one of these visits this past January, we pulled into a small village outside of Tamale Ghana. This was an unannounced visit. I wanted to see first-hand how the new well was working and if the community was taking care of it as they committed to. When we pulled up I noticed a crowd around the water pump. They were all laughing and talking while getting water around this new community center. As I started toward the group, an older woman came from her home, running toward us with her hands in the air and tears in her eyes saying, “Thank Allah. Thank Allah. Thank you and thank your God. We are healthy now. You have made us healthy now. Thank you. Thank you!” She came and hugged each one of us. There wasn’t a dry eye. It was a completely organic moment that will continually stand as a reminder of the importance of Family Humanitarian and the good that we are all doing.
