Thankful For You

As we celebrate Thanksgiving this month, we want to take a moment to express our heartfelt gratitude to you—our incredible supporters. Your generosity has been instrumental in helping us fulfill our mission of providing essential services and affordable housing to older adults in our community.

As we embark upon the season of giving, we hope that you know how important your financial support and the hours you volunteer are to our residents and our organization.

Resident Life

Lake Ridge Fellowship House

The National Vascular Association screened residents arteries without needles for concerns from peripheral artery disease. In addition to the screening, they spoke to residents about how to keep their blood flowing into their feet and how to protect arteries and blood flow while we age.

Additionally, One Hanson Pharmacy helped our residents receive their Flu and Covid-19 vaccinations in early November to prepare for the coming winter months.

Hunters Woods Fellowship House

Our talented residents at Hunters Woods joined forces with the creative minds of South Lakes High School students to create coloring pages for our ‘Thankful Tree’ and for the quarterly art gallery exhibit.

November is Diabetes Awareness Month! Residents at Hunters Woods attended a seminar hosted by Lisa Sharp, RDN. She showcased to residents nutritional facts and how to incorporate healthy foods into their everyday diet.

Largo Landing Fellowship House

A big thank you to our friends at StarKist for their generous support! Our residents at Largo Landing enjoyed delicious tuna, chicken, and beef from StarKist. These donations provide a fantastic source of protein and nutrients in convenient, easy-to-open packets!

Virginia Governor's Housing Conference 2024

Fellowship Square's fundraising team proudly exhibited at the Virginia Governor's Housing Conference (VAGHC), which attracted over 1,200 attendees from various sectors, including nonprofits, government officials, and affordable housing developers. This year's theme of innovation highlighted new strategies and solutions to improve affordable housing for those in need across Virginia.

County Councilmember Wala Blegay Distributes Thanksgiving Turkeys to Older Adults at Largo Landing Fellowship House

Upper Marlboro, MD—On Saturday, November 24, Prince George’s County Councilmember Wala Blegay distributed forty Thanksgiving packages to residents at Largo Landing Fellowship House.

The donated packages included a turkey, produce, and all the fixings for residents to enjoy a festive Thanksgiving meal. The donation from Blegay goes to residents of Largo Landing Fellowship House who are seniors that struggle to make ends meet financially.

“We’re thankful to have a wonderful partner in Councilmember Blegay,” said Christy Zeitz, CEO of Fellowship Square. “Her support and dedication to our mission has a tremendous positive impact on the 100+ seniors that call Largo Landing Fellowship House home. We greatly appreciate the time she took to organize, collect and distribute everything the residents would need to have a healthy and joyful Thanksgiving meal.”

Welcome Programs Intern: Karen Wen

Welcome Karen Wen!

Karen Wen grew up and obtained the Bachelor degree in nursing in Taiwan. She immigrated to the United states in 1987 and accomplished the Master degree in information system in 1994.

As an immigrant in the United States, English is her second language.  Even though she tried very hard to integrate into the American society, traditional Chinese culture and life habits are still separated by the language barrier. So she understands the hardships of those who immigrated for the dream of American freedom.

When she had an opportunity to be a volunteer in Hunters Woods Fellowship House, she saw the needs of residents from China, who appreciate the U.S. government for providing a free and open environment to them, but the language barrier caused inconvenience in their lives.

Karen has a fulfilling life that she participates in church fellowship, and enjoys singing, crocheting and quilting in her spare time.
