Message from the President

We have had outstanding events this year and the next several weeks promise more of the same! Our very popular Principal for a Day program is next week from October 21-25 and we have a dozen schools hoping to have a Delaware State Chamber member visit their schools! If you are interested in this very rewarding experience or have a colleague that would participate, please contact Kelly Basile ASAP! We end October with another Chamber Leadership Breakfast at the University and Whist Club. Our keynote speaker will be Bob Byrd – a fixture in Legislative Hall and participant in the Delaware political scene for decades. And, the fun doesn’t stop there! We start November off with a bang and our 21st Annual Superstars in Business awards luncheon on November 6 at the Hotel DuPont.

Recognizing a need to foster working relationships between business leaders and educators, the State Chamber created this Delaware Principal for a Day to provide CEO's and business leaders an opportunity to spend the day in a Delaware school carrying out the daily responsibilities of a principal.

Q&A with Governor Carney

When you look back on your career, was there one person who served as a mentor? I had a number of individuals. They were mostly my bosses. I had two political leaders I really looked up and continue to look up to – Senator Biden and Senator Carper. Senator Carper encouraged me to run for office. He has been influential along the way in terms of his work ethic and the way he approaches policy – kind of a moderate Democrat who recognizes that you must have a strong and growing economy first to support the things that we care about as Democrats. Senator Biden taught me how to lead from the heart, and Senator Carper taught me how to manage from your head.

Why the Delaware National Guard?

Part-time jobs often mean minimum wage and little chance of advancement. But that’s not the case with the Delaware National Guard. Serving in the Delaware Guard is often a one-weekend-a-month, two-weeks-a-year commitment and gets you a regular paycheck with great benefits. It’s a reserve component of the Army and Air Force, and you work alongside well-educated and motivated professionals who eventually become like family.

Medicare Open Enrollment Essentials

It is the 2019 Open Enrollment season for Medicare beneficiaries! During this open enrollment period, Medicare beneficiaries can enroll for the first time or make changes to their existing plans. The annual enrollment period opens October 15 and remains open through December 7.
