These pictures show joist hangers in various stages of age. The first is what they should always look like. The next two are what happens with time. Their job is to hold and attach the deck joists to the ledger board that is secured to the home. Unless monitored, the joists will eventually fall out of place and no longer support the deck. Now is a good time to get under your deck and check for any signs of damage.
