The IncuHub & Portsmouth Economic Development Host a Successful Grant Information Session & Networking Reception

On the evening of June 12, several business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs from the local community gathered at The IncuHub to learn about the many grants and funding opportunities provided by the Portsmouth Economic Development Authority that are available to support Portsmouth-based businesses. Guests were treated to a very informative overview of the grant and funding options available, eligibility guidelines, and the application process.

Following the information session, we opened our doors - literally - to treat guests to a fun and relaxing indoor / outdoor networking reception complete with beverages and incredible cuisine from Red Table, a local food truck and catering business. Many meaningful connections were made and guests came away with a thorough understanding of how to leverage the funding opportunities available to support their businesses.

We're extremely grateful for those who attended, the Team at Red Table, and most importantly, our partners with the Portsmouth Economic Development Team for making this opportunity possible: especially Autumn Bailey and Tanisha Sunny Golston for organizing the event and Brian Donauhe and Leo Akujoabi for providing event support.

We look forward to continued collaboration with Portsmouth Economic Development. Stay tuned for more events like these in the future!

The IncuHub Hosts Student Interns with the Portsmouth Public Schools Internship Program

The IncuHub and several of our member businesses are thrilled to be hosting 10 Portsmouth High School students as part of the Portsmouth Public Schools Internship Program this summer. The students will spend 8 weeks in an immersive, hands on learning experience, where they will work directly with their host businesses to learn about business management and entrepreneurship.

In addition to their daily tasks and responsibilities, the students are also being treated to several guest speakers in leadership positions in government and business, who will join the students to share their experiences and advice on life and leadership. Most recently, the students were joined by Portsmouth Chief of Police Stephen Jenkins, who spent an hour meeting and having a very engaging conversation with the students.

We're thrilled to continue our participation in this program, which sees more and more students join us every year. Stay tuned to this newsletter throughout the summer for more updates on the students and their experience with this wonderful program!

Member Spotlight: The WKW Cary Foundation

Meet The WKW Cary Foundation: A Mission Rooted in Awareness, Advocacy, and Action.

Headquartered at The IncuHub's Hampton location and led by Ariel Cary, The WKW Cary Foundation isn’t just another nonprofit - they are a family-inspired movement created to bring awareness to high-risk health issues affecting our communities every day. Born from personal loss and deep purpose, the foundation exists to spark change where it’s needed most: in education, access, and early detection.

Their journey started with heartache. After losing loved ones to breast cancer, prostate cancer, and other preventable illnesses, the WKW Cary Team knew they had to do more than mourn - they had to mobilize. What began as a tribute turned into a powerful platform that brings communities together through outreach events, health screenings, workshops, and wellness programs.

One of their signature events is the Pink & Blue Warriors Health & Awareness Event, held each September. This event brings the community together to raise awareness about all cancers—particularly breast and prostate cancer. But it’s more than that. They don’t just educate and provide vital health resources and screenings - they also honor individuals who are currently fighting, have survived, or have passed from cancer. It’s their way of saying: you are seen, you are valued, and you are not alone.

Through this celebration of courage and community, they uplift warriors and their families while empowering others with the tools to take charge of their health.

They also host initiatives year-round, from women’s wellness expos and college outreach to resource giveaways and self-care programs. No matter the project, their mission is consistent: to meet people where they are and help them move forward in mind, body, and spirit.

They are proud to collaborate with local businesses, healthcare professionals, and everyday changemakers who share their passion.

And we are proud that they are a part of our IncuHub family, and especially proud of the amazing work they're doing each and every day to make our community a happier, healthier place.

IncuHub Member Gives Back in Hampton

Longtime IncuHub-Hampton Member Rhondnita Reed, founder and owner of Because I Care Educational Services, is passionate about giving back to her community and ensuring children and youth have access to educational opportunities.

Earlier this month, she hosted a very successful book giveaway in The IncuHub's lobby, where children from the community and their parents were able to come and select free books to take home with them. Several families took advantage of this giveaway, and the children eagerly took advantage of the free books being offered, which will allow them to continue their education through reading throughout the summer.

This initiative is just one of many ways that our IncuHub members - at both locations - collaborate with each other and their communities to give back. There will be more initiatives like this one coming up later this summer. We will be sure to keep you informed and let you know how you can get involved!

And by the way - if you're looking for high quality tutoring and educational services for your child, give Ms. Reed a call today!
