Summer time is here, and time for some R & R. It won't be long until Fall arrives, and back to telling my "story" and imparting important messages of respect and tolerance. I would like to share with you over the next few weeks highlights experienced over the past 6 months beginning first with our visit to Redlands, California, also known as the Inland Empire. I was given the opportunity to speak in middle and high schools, a church, and the University of Redlands. The students and adults at each venue were receptive and responsive to the story of the Holocaust.
It was Kenneth Baughman ESQ who had seen my documentary on PBS and thought strongly that it would be important for the "people of Redlands and vicinity" to hear my Holocaust story. Ken actually covered the airfare! He asked his back door neighbor Peggy Lanum to help coordinate the visit, and she did an outstanding job. It was Peggy and Dr. David Lanum who made a sumptuous dinner in our honor at the beautiful Burrage Mansion, with two dozen guests in attendance. Nathaniel and I enjoyed a kosher dinner.
Each venue was special and packed with students and/or adults, and the feedback was very positive. I am indebted to all in Redlands who helped make this visit a memorable one.
One of these visits was an all-day affair at Yucaipa High School with a 2,500 student enrollment. I spoke both morning and afternoon, with a long break for lunch with several students, followed by an intensive interview conducted by the Yucaipa HS Journalism Staff. It is this interview that I would like to share with you!
