Carleigh's Corner

Now that November has arrived, it is truly crazy that there is only one month left of my last fall semester of college. With applying to law schools, internships, and school work, I am definitely looking forward to the New Year and what it has in store. I am so grateful for Del and The Perfect Game Foundation for supporting me throughout all of my endeavors and providing me with the utmost encouragement. It is really the greatest pleasure to have such a wonderful support system that has helped me grow in so many aspects of my life.

I am currently taking a sports law course, and it is one of my favorite classes I have ever taken. We are examining the constantly changing NIL rules and how universities are continuously staying one step ahead. Check out this article here if you too are interested in updates regarding NIL rules!

In Her Own Words

Christina Zhou

I am a senior on the William and Mary varsity women's golf team, majoring in International Relations and minoring in Marketing. During my time at William and Mary many different courses have made my studies including international finance, politics of global health, advertising and digital marketing, and international political economy.

Playing golf started at the age of 11 and it's been love ever since. Golf has taught countless life lessons that help me navigate everyday life and experience as a D1 student athlete have allowed me to master time management, balance rigorous academic responsibilities, demanding athletic schedule , and a part-time internship. Upon graduating from college, the hope is to start my professional career in the sport industry as a marketer or working in operations.

I started working with Del Wilber and The Perfect Game Foundation recently through an introduction from Tribe Alumna Kelly Okun and Del has been a great mentor providing lots of good advice for the future. Looking forward to continuing my work with Del/TPGF and finding my fit in the sport industry. The Perfect Game Foundation is a wonderful resource for student athletes, and I am thankful to be a Foundation Fellow!

Lyndsay Goodwin

I am a freshman at the University of Mississippi - fifteen hours away from home - because it is where I am supposed to be (I truly believe that !). The opportunities here are limitless. My whole life has revolved around sports and with two older brothers and my dad as a coach, there was really no choice but to fall in love with sports.

I played soccer my whole life and when I was not on the field, you could find me at double header baseball games, basketball tournaments, or on the sidelines of football games watching my big brothers.

With always loving the passion and heart of the game of football, becoming a student worker of the Ole Miss Football program this year was an easy choice. Working within the recruiting department has taught me things like going the extra mile and connecting with others all around you are the keys to success.

I am so thankful for the chance to meet Del and The Perfect Game Foundation and am so excited for what's to come these next few years in my journey of chasing my dreams.

In His Own Words

Chris Damond

Greg Gosselin

There's something magical about sports that I can't quite pinpoint. Maybe it's the underdog stories, or maybe it's when athletes achieve the impossible - couldn't tell you. All I know is that sports blew my mind as a kid and several years later, that feeling has not gone away !

As a child who watched NHL Network before school, SportsCenter at night, with a mini hoop in my basement pretending to be Derrick Rose or LeBron James until bedtime - life was great. All of my notebooks were filled with brackets of different professional teams, and enthusiastic recreation of games was a fantastic pastime.

Sports were never just a game - they represented life, with its countless up and downs, perfectly. There's something amazing about that and now as a junior at the University of Miami studying journalism and sport administration, the career path is in the sports industry! As The Perfect Game Foundation says 'Perfect' !

My dreams are becoming a reality, serving as the Co-Sports Editor with the Miami Hurricane, the University of Miami's student newspaper, and getting to write, edit, and publish stories. Attending sporting events as a media member and working with other students to help them learn the skills needed to be a successful sportswriter is Perfect.

Work these days also includes writing game recaps and columns for the Miami Dolphins and each home game, the dream continues watching the Dolphins play from the press box and seeing the players up close at press conferences. There is nothing better.

My passions are sports and writing. They always have been. Ideally, the career path will take me to working for the PR/Communications department of a professional team, but it won't be easy. Del Wilber and The Perfect Game Foundation are helping me make that happen.

They are introducing me to respected members in the sports industry and are helping me land internships. Many thanks to TPGF - very excited for this journey.

Gather ‘round Fellows and job seekers, it’s story time!

My name is Greg Gosselin and I am the elder statesman of TPGF, the original Fellow as Del likes to say.

When I first met Del in 2009, it was at the rental car counter in Naples, FL. I was the area manager for this rental car company and was sitting at the counter reading a sports marketing textbook for my master’s program. Luckily for me it was “the right place, at the right time”! Over the course of the next few months Del and I would speak over the phone or at the rental counter about sports, my pursuit of a career in sports and of course baseball. I still remember the look he gave me when he found out I am an avid Red Sox fan and knew who his dad was.

This almost weekly conversations turned into career advice and eventually into an invite to the DC area to meet with Del’s network of professionals with the area professional team. He would always say, “I will get you in front of the right people, you do the rest, you have the talent” and that was the confidence I needed to land my first role in sports with the Washington Capitals in 2010.

I worked my way up from Guest Services Specialist to the Senior Director of Service and Retention all while being able to bend the ear of someone I value as a friend and a true mentor in Del Wilber.

Though my time with the Capitals has recently ended, the past 12 years have been some of the best years of my life. There were challenges, new opportunities, and of course bringing the Stanley Cup to DC! Through it all there was a constant, Del and TPGF. I am moving to my next adventure, and I know I will have the support of TPGF, other Fellows, and Del.

Find a mentor, find a program like TPGF, pursue your dreams and give back!
