Dear team,
As we welcome the new year, I am very excited for the upcoming year and all that 2024 will bring to LCMH and the community.
We have begun work and will be working through most of 2024 with our partners from Deaconess Health System on adopting and implanting Deaconess’ Epic System. EPIC is a state-of-the-art and the industry gold standard electronic health record (EHR). By adopting this new technology, we will be able to improve the efficiency and convenience of the services our providers and staff provide to our patients.
In the coming months, we will be turning our focus to our Master Facility Plan. We will be expanding our facilities to accommodate the growing needs of our patients and to provide a more comfortable and welcoming environment for all who come through our doors.
We are excited to bring several new physicians to our team in 2024. This list of new physicians includes a general surgeon, Dr. Michael A Boyd who will begin seeing patients in January and provide general surgical services right here at LCMH.
None of this would be possible without the dedication and hard work of our incredible team. Your passion for delivering exceptional care, day in and day out, is what makes LCMH such a special place to work and receive care.
Thank you for your continued commitment to our mission and know that I am looking forward to all the exciting things to come in the new year!
Happy New Year!

Meet Our Board
Carl Aten, Board Chairman
Carl grew up in the small town of Hidalgo in Jasper County, IL, graduating from Greenville University and eventually began a career with the IDNR. Carl and his family move to Lawrence County following a promotion as the Park Superintendent of Red Hill State Park. Carl and his wife Linda, raised their three children in Lawrence County and are blessed to surrounded by 10 grandchildren.
Carl was nominated by the County Board to serve on the Lawrence County Memorial Hospital Directors in 2002, two years later being elected as Board Chairman of LCMH where he still remains Board Chairman. "I was raised in a county that did not have a local hospital, which made it nearly impossible to recruit and keep doctors. That perspective greatly influences the depth of my commitment to LCMH and the services it provides for our community." said Carl Aten.
During his tenure, LCMH has transitioned from a county hospital to a 501C Not-for-Profit Critical Access facility, retained one of the largest and most successful hospital management companies in the nation, and more recently entered in to partnership with Deaconess Health Care Systems while still retaining local ownership and control. We have successfully completed three major building projects and are moving forward with an even larger expansion with the Master Facility Project. We have continued to improve the availability of our primary care and specialty services with more to come. "Although, progress is sometimes slow and frustrating, I have had the great pleasure of working with wonderful Board Members and Administrators who are equally committed to making LCMH a desirable and viable health care facility for generations to come." said Carl Aten.
