Sandusky County, Ohio continued to thrive throughout 2021. The SCEDC's annual review video highlights some of our projects throughout the county, as well as, the SCEDC's goals, and tactics this past year.
Thank you to everyone who attended the SCEDC's Annual Meeting of Investors held at the Neeley Center on February 24th. The SCEDC is honored to work alongside of you and we appreciate the continued support of our board of directors and investors.
Thank you to our featured speaker, Jim Robey who did a phenomenal job of providing economic trends and forecasts for the nation, as well as, Sandusky County. Finally, thank you to outgoing board president Hans Rosebrock, and outgoing executive committee member Wade Weaver. We appreciate your leadership throughout the years.

Site Selection Magazine’s Governor’s Cup Awards
Top Metro and Micropolitan Areas for Corporate Facility Investment.
The 68-year-old Atlanta-based magazine has awarded the Governor’s Cup annually since 1988, based on new and expanded corporate facilities as tracked by the proprietary Conway Projects Database. Site Selection, published by Conway Inc., is the senior publication in the corporate real estate and economic development fields and is the official publication of the Industrial Asset Management Council. Site Selection's yearly analyses are regarded by corporate real estate analysts as "the industry scoreboard." The magazine's circulation base consists of 48,000 subscribers, most of whom are involved in corporate site selection decisions at the CEO/President/COO level.
Overall data from the full 2021 calendar year show a pronounced upswing in project activity compared to data from the pandemic-affected economy of 2020.
- Ohio Ranked Number 2 for Governor's Cup, same as 2020, with 507 Project Count.
- Ohio Ranked Number 4 in Top 10 States Per Capita for the Governor's Cup.
- Ohio Ranked Number 1 of Top 10 States with the Most Top Micropolitans.
- Ohio had 13 Top Micros and 100 projects within those Micros.
- Top Micros included #1 Findlay, OH; #3 Wooster, OH; and Tied for #10 FREMONT, OH and Tiffin, OH!
Micropolitans are cities of 10,000 to 50,000 people which cover at least one county.
Sandusky County Economic Development Corporation and Tiffin-Seneca Economic Partnership hosted a joint press conference on March 1st at Terra State Community College.
Fremont - Sandusky County and Tiffin - Seneca County have tied for the 10th best Micropolitan in the nation, based off of Site Selection Magazine’s rankings for economic development projects.
Cory Stine, President of the Terra State Foundation, welcomed the attendees to campus and introduced Mike Jay, Director of Strategic Networks with Regional Growth Partnership made the announcement. Beth Hannam, Executive Director of the SCEDC and David Zak, President of TSEP, were the emcees for the remainder of the event. Making remarks at the event were State Senator Bill Reineke, State Representative Gary Click, Sandusky County Commissioner Scott Miller, Seneca County Commissioner Tony Paradiso, Fremont Mayor Danny Sanchez, Clyde Vice Mayor Chris Shay, and Tiffin Mayor Aaron Montz.

High School Student Job Fair | |
The High School Job Fair is open to all investors who are looking to fill positions including full-time, part-time (including summer-only positions) or internship opportunities. Sandusky County High School Seniors, Juniors and Sophomores have been invited to attend the event. The job fair will be held on April 20 from 8 am – 12:30 pm at Vanguard Career & Technical Center.

Sandusky County Regional Airport Names New Airport Manager | |
Clyde- Sandusky County, Ohio - Sandusky County Regional Airport (SCRA) has hired Michael Russell as the new airport manager.
“The Sandusky County Regional Airport Authority is pleased to have Mr. Russell on board as the Airport Manager,” said Bruce Schrader, Sandusky County Regional Airport Authority President. “Michael is an excellent fit for this position. We are confident that with his background in Army Aviation that he will continue to provide outstanding service to airport users. We look forward to him building a stronger relationship between the airport, the flying public, industries, and our local communities”.
As Airport Manager Michael’s responsibilities include efficient daily operations of the Sandusky County Regional Airport, ensuring that all assigned personnel and equipment are ready to support customers in the safety of flight. Michael will also be responsible for exploring new opportunities to mutually support the airport and the local community and following all state and federal requirements within the airport.
Mr. Russell, a Detroit native, graduated from Michigan State University in 1986 with a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and German Language and Literature. Michael taught languages for both private and public secondary education sectors before deciding to join the Army. His military career began in 1995, and he served as an enlisted Soldier, senior Noncommissioned Officer, and Chief Warrant Officer for Air Traffic Services. Michael attended the FAA Academy and completed his Army Aviation training at Fort Rucker, Alabama. He was deployed on four tours and has served on special duty assignments with the US Air Force and Republic of Korea Army. Michael retired from the US Army in 2020, receiving the Legion of Merit award for over 25 years of exceptionally meritorious service.
“I really enjoyed working in airspace and hoped to continue along that trajectory once I retired from the military. When I heard about the position through Indeed.com, I knew that it would be an excellent fit for my background and skill set” stated Russell.
Since retirement, Michael and his wife, Constancia, volunteered for 14 months on a co-pastoral team doing mission work for an independent church in coastal, northern rural Peru. Mr. and Mrs. Russell have eight children and ten grandchildren and are happy to return to the Midwest.
About SCRA: The Sandusky County Regional Airport is General Aviation facility equipped to support the corporate, commercial, and recreational aircraft. Operations such as freight, law enforcement, emergency medical transportation, aerial application and utility inspection are supported with fuel, hangars, rental vehicles, concierge and loading services on a 24/7/365 basis.
