Governor Cuomo Announces More Than $755 Million in Economic and Community Development Resources Awarded Through 2017 Regional Council Competition

All 10 Regional Economic Development Councils Receive Funding to Drive Local Economies Forward and Implement Strategic Plans for Growth

Central New York, Mohawk Valley, Capital Region, Mid-Hudson and Long Island Named 'Top Performers' - Awarded $425.9 Million in Total Funding

Western New York, Southern Tier, North Country, New York City and Finger Lakes Receive $329.7 Million in 'Regional Council' Awards

Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced that more than $755 million in economic and community development funding has been awarded through Round VII of the Regional Economic Development Council initiative.

How much the Albany area won in state money competition

The Albany, New York, area will receive $85 million from the state for 110 economic development projects.

The ceremony to award funding as part of Gov.  Andrew Cuomo's seventh-annual state money competition was held Wednesday at the Albany Capital Center.

More than $755 million was awarded across 10 regions.

Albany was  awarded $83.1 million last year for 116 projects. In total, over the past seven years of the awards, the Capital Region has received $521.9 million for 718 projects. Seven other regions have received more funding.

GLENS FALLS - The local area made out well in the latest round of the governor's Regional Economic Development Council Awards, with money awarded to expand Flomatic, build a new facility for Stored Technology Solutions and make improvements at West Mountain.

Big Brothers Big Sisters  received an abundance of gifts from our extremely generous donors making a huge difference in children's lives this Christmas. Chester: New pellet boiler & a forest nearby to help supply it

The Town of Chester celebrated its new wood pellet boiler, a $50,000 donation from the Peckham Family Foundation, and the purchase of the 104-acre Cunningham Community Forest at a Nov. 29 ribbon-cutting.  EDC President Ed Bartholomew participated at this event.

The biomass boiler, which will burn wood pellets, and its steam accumulator thermal storage are being touted by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) as a demonstration project for other communities statewide, Chester Supervisor Craig Leggett said.

Sen. Schumer 'inspired' after touring historic Hudson Falls buildings

"This is the kind of thing that makes my job so great," said Sen. Charles Schumer, the top Democrat in the United States Senate, as he toured four historic buildings in downtown Hudson Falls on Friday, Dec. 8.

"To see all of the activity and the revitalization and the hope in all of these buildings I visited is inspiring."

Sen. Schumer, with Secret Service protection, toured the Hudson River Music Hall building, the former Washington County Courthouse, the former Commercial National Bank of Sandy Hill building and the Strand Theater.

State Comptroller DiNapoli touts Glens Falls' fiscal progress

Celebrate the Season with Holiday Concert & Events in December

The Glens Falls Symphony presents its annual Holiday Concert, "Holiday Stories", on Sunday, December 17, 4pm, at Glens Falls High School Auditorium, Glens Falls, NY. The orchestra will perform a wide range of festive favorites in a celebration of the joys of season, with featured performances by the Glens Falls Symphony Children's Chorus. Chorus alumni from past years will join the Chorus for some pieces, revisiting their childhood and holiday memories.

Volunteers sought for Glens Falls Christmas Breakfast

The 10th annual free Glens Falls Community Christmas Breakfast is Monday, December 25 from 8 to 11 a.m. at Christ Church United Methodist, 54 Bay Street in Glens Falls.  The breakfast is open to the public and live music will be provided by Al and Kathy Bain, Ray Agnew and Maury Thompson.  Volunteers are still needed.  For more information, contact Ed Bartholomew at 518-798-3895.

About the Artist

Charles E. Hawley, 1923-2010, spent the last 30 years of his life capturing the wild beauty that is the Adirondacks - its landscapes, people, and architecture.  Working exclusively in oils, he conveyed the inherent feel and beauty of the area through color, light, texture and space.

A graduate of the College of Fine Arts at Carnegie Institute, Chuck dedicated his life to preserving Lake George through his art and leadership.  He served on the Lake George Park Commission for nearly 30 years, nine as chairman.  He also served as councilman and supervisor of the Town of Lake George, chairman of the steering committee for the Lake George Park management plan, chairman of the Lake Champlain-Lake George regional planning board and adviser to the study commission for the future of Adirondack Park.

The Elite 40:  Top Craft U.S. Beers Showing Double-Digit Growth

Nielsen Insights looks at what is happening in the craft beer industry and what is driving growth in that sector

In Nielsen's U.S. off-premise measured channels, the craft beer segment grew 3.4% in dollars in the 52 week period ended Oct. 7, 2017. Yet, within a segment as fragmented and variety-rich as the craft realm, there are still many healthy pockets of growth. For instance, 40 of the top 100 craft breweries across the country (based on dollar sales) are driving double-digit growth to the category.

AT&T Launches Project AirGig Trials to Bring Ultra-Fast Internet Over Power Lines Closer to Reality

AT&T launching Project AirGig seeking to bring ultra high speed broadband over existing power lines. Trials are underway working with Georgia Power. If successful would eliminate the need to use towers, fiber lines, etc. as signals would travel over power lines which are already in place.
