Six Flags Great Escape will add a new ride, called Pandemonium, for next year.

QUEENSBURY - Fourteen of the 18 Six Flags parks are getting new rides for the 2018 season, including Great Escape, which will add a ride called Pandemonium.

Park officials called it "a sensational spin on a classic thrill ride" and said it will have guests catching air and experiencing 360 degrees of excitement.

Second half of summer shines on tourist season
Economies of Saratoga and Warren counties buoyed by weather

Deluges washed away roads in Warren and Rensselaer counties early in July.

Some parts of the Adirondacks were hit particularly hard. In Indian Lake, the 8.21 inches of rain that fell during July were more than twice the average 3.86 inches it sees during the month.

North Creek also saw above average rainfall for the month.

But conditions improved in the second half of summer, in time for the annual thoroughbred season at Saratoga Race Course, a major draw for tourists.

Weatherwise, "August was a relatively quiet month compared to June and July," observed Christina Speciale, a meteorologist at the Albany office of the National Weather Service.

Reports:  CRRC out of the running for New York contract

SPRINGFIELD -- CRRC, the Chinese rail car maker that has nearly completed its factory in East Springfield, is out of the running for a major New York City contract, according to published reports.

If CRRC -- which has the formal name China Railway Rolling Stock Corp. -- had gotten the $3.2 billion deal to make cars for New York City subways, it would have built a new factory in in Fort Edward, New York, which is near Glens Falls -- about 134 miles and an almost two-hour drive north and west from Springfield.

Frontier Town proposal deadline is moved back
Proposals can be submitted in September rather than July

The state's economic development incubator has extended by a month and a half the deadline for investors to submit proposals for redeveloping the shuttered Frontier Town theme park in the Adirondacks.

The original deadline of July 28 was moved forward to Sept. 15.

Fort Ticonderoga Economic Impact Study

A recently commissioned economic study by Magellan Strategy Group showed Fort Ticonderoga generates $12 million in annual economic impact for the region.
