June was Teacher Manufacturing Bootcamp month! Thank you to the 24 teachers who participated in this educational bootcamp about today's manufacturing. The SCEDC enjoyed watching your presentations on how you will be including what you learned from the Bootcamp into your 2021-2022 curriculum.

Finally, a very warm thank you to United Way of Sandusky County for funding the Teacher Manufacturing Bootcamp. We appreciate your continued support.

The News-Messenger wrote a wonderful article about the Bootcamp. View that here.

Small Business Basics Seminars
The SBDC’s in-person Small Business Basics Seminars have been on hold since early 2020 due to the pandemic. In the interim, we have been holding them remotely on an individual basis. Although this has been effective, we are looking forward to getting back to the in-person seminars along with continuing to provide them remotely for those who cannot attend in-person.

As a reminder, these seminars are free of charge for anyone wanting to start, buy, or expand a small business. The focus is on business planning and development (see the attached presentation).

Here is an update on our seminars for the remainder of 2021:

  • The seminars will start-up again in July (see the attached schedule).
  • The seminars will be held here at Terra State since we have the technology and personnel to conduct them both in-person and remotely and at the same time if necessary.
  • The seminars will be presented twice a month, and have been extended from two hours to three. Our attendees frequently asked for them to be longer for Q & A sessions.

Thank you for your patience during these challenging times. If you have any questions, please feel free to let us know.

Best regards,

Small Businesses Could Receive Tax Credits for Employee Covid-19 Leave
The Internal Revenue Service and the Treasury Department announced further details of tax credits available under the American Rescue Plan to help small businesses, including providing paid leave for employees receiving COVID-19 vaccinations

Eligible employers, such as businesses and tax-exempt organizations with fewer than 500 employees and certain governmental employers, can receive a tax credit for providing paid time off for each employee receiving the vaccine and for any time needed to recover from the vaccine. For example, if an eligible employer offers employees a paid day off in order to get vaccinated, the employer can receive a tax credit equal to the wages paid to employees for that day (up to certain limits).
