5 Counties Hold Creative Financing Roundtable
On October 18th, the SCEDC hosted a Creative Financing Roundtable event in partnership with four other Economic Development Organizations: Greater Sandusky Partnership, Huron County Growth Partnership, Ottawa County Improvement Corporation, and Tiffin-Seneca Economic Partnership. The event included a speaker from Bricker Graydon that spoke on the benefits of a Port Authority, an introduction to the Erie County Port Authority, and a panel discussion that included partners for a current project that includes a collaborative effort between the Ottawa County Improvement Corporation and the Erie County Port Authority.
The event was held at Terra State's Neeley Center, and we had nearly 100 attendees for the event. We want to express our thanks to the LEDO's for making this event a success, Bricker Graydon for speaking at our event, and to Terra State Community College for hosting this event on their campus.

SCEDC Kicks Off Student Career Camps for the 23-24 School Year
The SCEDC recently kicked off its Student Career Camp season, where Sandusky County students had the fantastic opportunity to explore various career paths through our Student Career Camp program. On October 24th, students gained hands-on experience in the construction industry by visiting Damschroder Roofing and Mosser Construction. Then, on October 29th, they explored healthcare careers with visits to ProMedica Memorial Hospital and Community Health Services, providing a valuable insight into this vital field. Most recently, our third Student Career Camp of the school year focused on Finance. Students visited Great Lakes Community Action Partnership, where they engaged with the finance department and learned about different career paths in non-profits. The day concluded at Croghan Colonial Bank, where students learned about finance careers, fraud protection, and credit management.
Students attending these career camps are carefully selected by their school career coaches based on their results from YouScience, an innovative aptitude-based career guidance tool being implemented in Sandusky County School Districts. Unlike traditional career interest assessments, YouScience helps students identify their natural strengths and discover careers that align with their aptitudes.
These initiatives not only empower students with knowledge about potential career paths but also strengthen the relationship between local businesses and the future workforce. We are excited to continue fostering these connections and supporting the professional development of our youth.
