The SCEDC, in partnership with North Point ESC and the Sandusky County Business Advisory Council, recently hosted its 5th Teacher Bootcamp. - Whirlpool Corporation
- Green Bay Packaging
- The Bellevue Hospital
- Motion Controls Robotics
- Luckey Farmers
- Mosser Construction.
This initiative provided teachers with an inside look at the manufacturing, healthcare, construction, and agriculture sectors of the county. Participants gained valuable insights into the rewarding careers available in these industries and the skills students need to secure and succeed in these positions. Upon completion of the program, teachers received three graduate-level credits from Ashland University, along with materials to incorporate into their classrooms based on the knowledge gained throughout the week.
The bootcamp concluded with teachers presenting information they will use to guide students toward suitable career paths. Many thanks to the businesses that hosted our teachers, North Point for their assistance in coordinating the event, and Vanguard for hosting the teacher presentations.

Community Infrastructure Investments Approved for Ohio |
The Ohio House of Representatives has approved a two-year capital improvement budget for community infrastructure projects across Ohio. The budget includes substantial investments for the 88th House District, such as $1.35 million to revitalize Fremont’s West State Street downtown area, $1,122,177 for various upgrades and renovations at Terra State Community College, $300,000 for improvements to the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Library Center, $150,000 for Fremont’s emergency response water access project, $50,000 for a walking path from Community Park in Clyde, and $100,000 for the improvements to the Robert Peters Park in the City of Bellevue.
The Substitute House Bill 2 now awaits a signature from Gov. Mike DeWine. These investments will have a positive impact on the community, and the residents are thankful for the dedicated efforts of the representatives in securing this funding. This marks an exciting time for the continued growth and development of the district's infrastructure.

Gibsonburg Secures Funds for Downtown Revitalization |
Gibsonburg's downtown area is set to undergo a significant transformation, thanks to a substantial grant from ODOT's Transportation Alternatives program. The village, led by Mayor Steve Fought, secured $700,000 of the $1.3 million they applied for, with plans to contribute additional funding. After facing two rejections, the persistence of the village in pursuing the grant has finally paid off.
The allocated funds will be utilized to enhance accessibility and infrastructure, including paving roads, installing new sidewalks, street lights, traffic signals, and improving curb access. This initiative supports the city's vision to revitalize the downtown area.
Additionally, the completion of Phase I of the project, involving the demolition of an old gas station and the construction of a new Log Yard, is a significant milestone. The state-funded Phase I project in 2019 has set the stage for further enhancements, such as the installation of a bear statue and new fences.
Mayor Fought highlighted the significance of this funding for a small town, emphasizing the substantial impact of $700,000 in a community like Gibsonburg. Furthermore, Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur's efforts to secure an additional $1 million in funding for downtown renovations reflect ongoing endeavors to further invest in the community's development.
